Paint color examples?

Is there a resource out there that shows all the stock Cougar paint options by year? I would love to see charts of all the colors, and of course photos of actual cars in each color would be good too.

The reason I thought to seek this out is that I saw a Cougar on eBay that has a really gorgeous red paint on it, and if that’s a stock color, I’m going to try and look for one that was originally this color when it comes time to buy my next Cougar. Well, I’ll start looking now, no idea how long it’ll take to find the drivetrain/options I want, much less in a specific color!

Awesome! Thanks very much!

So it looks like the closest color is Cardinal Red. Is this a faded and beat up Cardinal Red?

I like this website too: http://paintref.com/paintref/index.shtml

Here are a couple that you may like.

Hard to tell… other than the obvious use of the hood as a workbench to spraybomb something, the driver’s door appears to possibly have some “slime green” there. IMO it’s doubtful that is original paint on that thing.

That’s what I was wondering, if it’s a really worn Cardinal Red or just a different color that was done aftermarket. I imagine this will sound crazy to many or even most, but I’m curious to see if I can find a sorta dusty red that looks similar to this. I’m a huge fan of matte finishes, and this one really does it for me.

Well if anything, this narrows it down to looking for a Cardinal Red car, or an any-color car that I can try and do a dusty red on.

Seriously, I love how that one looks, aside from the black spray paint. The auction did include a new hood and trunk lid, which is good cause the good on that one is rusted out pretty bad.

He relisted it again today. If its still there two months from now maybe I’ll offer him $1300 for the car and the 429 he has listed as an add-on in the auction and see if he bites. That would keep me busy for the next several years.

Thanks for the links to websites with paint and also the YouTube vids of the red Cougars. All good stuff!!

ANY color can be sprayed to have a matte finish. If it’s a BC/CC system, you’d just need to get a matte clear.

Make sure your not wanting this car just for the faded red paint on it. Having a good base to work with and not a pile of rust is a good thing. You don’t want to be frustrated and discouraged with something that is totally gone to cheese under the car.

One thing to keep in mind about this, is that you can´t use this method to see how a color really is, due to different settings on cameras, computers, printers etc. lightning conditions etc
A bright yellow might look dark yellow on a picture, a car might look like bright red on picture, but may actually be maroon in real life.
These two pictures are of the same car, just different angles.

Oh I’m not buying the car. And if I did, it would be partly because I love the color, but more because I dig the wheels, black leather interior, and 429 engine he’s selling with it as an option. The paint would get redone when the body work got done anyway. It’s also not a manual trans, and not a 68, so the chances I’d buy it are super super slim. If I can get him down under $1k for it in a couple months, then maybe. But I doubt it would happen.
