Edelbrock is an aftermarket manufacturer so that intake is not a factory part.

The staggered shocks came standard when a Boss 302 or 428 with a 4 speed was ordered. They were not a separate option so they would not be listed as such on the invoice. They should be on Michelle’s car with the R code and 4 speed.

More numbers

In the case of your car that is not a correct statement. The Eliminator had a mid year introduction. Since your car is an early build date the Eliminator package was not yet available to be ordered. I will leave it to Dave or Mike to chime in with the earliest known Eliminator build date, especially since the first production Eliminator is known and owned by a member on this forum.

Dave, here’s your RUG photo.

Those are not ID numbers. They are there for timing the engine. Perhaps someone who really knows 351C engines would be able to say that is an early, or a later, production balancer.

RUG E3 = 69 302-351 Mustang Cougar…that what the internet says.
So, this car was not set up for a CJ428 but a 351 Cleveland.
???

Or more likely the transmission was swapped along with the engine.

They may be difficult to access with the engine in the car, but the critical numbers to ID the block will be found just above the starter. There should be two lines, on raised pads.

One will be in a format similar to: “D2AE CA” or “D0AE L”.

The other will consist of a number (0-9), a letter, and one or two additional numbers (1-31), such as: “2G28” or “0D7”.

Hope that helps.

I’m looking. Do I have to take the oil filter off?

No reason to remove the oil filter.

O.k. better to see the number from above or below?

From underneath. May be hard to read with the starter in place. But should look like this:

Edit: (I should note that they’ll be upside down with the engine installed in the car.)

Show me a wider view of that photo, please.

Rear of block, passenger side. (Again, this is upside down from how it’ll appear in the car.)

Ruined a perfectly good manicure but I got that f…in starter off!

And for a 1973?

April 18, 1973.

Hahaha! You are awesome!

That rules out 351 C test car.

looks like it is time for a 428 CJ in that baby.

I know :frowning:
Still a test car for something!
I also know I’ll never mess with a starter again!!
