paint OK stamp

69 convertible, searched for paint OK stamp and didn’t find anything. My car had a stamp on the hood that was oval in shape and said paint OK 612. Anybody make these stampers?

Looking to have a stamp made?
Staples could maybe do it.

Never heard nor seen of an oval with PAINT OK 612 unless your describing what is often called the “base ball diamond” that can be traced back to use in 63-64, back when they used three different sizes of these stamps and for at least 6 different inspections.

Guessing from what you provided so far (would have helped to know the plant and month at least  you have a Dearborn built car. Is it original, since restorers will often add paint marks from other cars and years during a “restoration” I mention this since the number sequence you provided is the same as 5-6 years prior

An example from 1964

Normally through most of the 69 production year Dearborn used square (not those reproductions with rounded corners) stickers to indicate a car had been inspected for about 6-8 different checks. Late in the year some of the inspections were indicated by a ink stamp which replaced a couple of the inspections but not all of them.

San Jose used a different process and stamping but that is a different subject.

Have a fairly large collection of this sort of details and a few hundred stamps to reproduce them though I don’t often sell them publically

I have a San Jose built 69. I would be interested in knowing about the inspectors stamps and where to find them on mine.

I had the OK stamped on my 70 convt. It was on the right valve cover on the front.

Yes, Mr Speegle that looks like it. I guess I was reading more into it, and thought it was like a football. Sorry, the picture is on an old phone that is not active. There is a place in town that says they can have stamps made, no staples out here in the sticks. Is there a template I could follow? Also, car was a Dearborn made March 19, 1969.

Just had a thought Mr Speegle, I could take a picture of the picture on my old with my new phone and text or email it to you. Ain’t technology great, Lol.

Paint OK on my 69 original built in Dearborn April.

FYI, the OK on valve cover is way different that the body stamps.
I have seen the body stamps in places like, fender lip, firewall, door jams, and trunk lid.

Suggest that you start a new thread and we can discuss those details rather than get them confused in this thread with other plants and their practices

Yep the base ball diamond. In my experience and collecting of markings this stamp seems to pop up on only a very very few examples through the years - after the years when it was the predominate (before stickers) method

Looking at my recovers have one that was found on a 68 example but this (and possibly bigbadblue428 report) is the first I’ve seen documented on an unrestored car from Dearborn 69. It may be something that a fill in guy used (sort of the PAINT OK at San Jose in the mid 60’s) explaining why its so rare. Still one would think that it would have been easier to had that guy a roll of stickers to do their task unless there were no black (without the inspectors name or punch identification) available.

Its just Jeff - please

If you want something that will look like the original you don’t IMHO want some local or big box store designing or making stamps for you. They will sub common modern fonts and really not focus on the details from my experience. Some will refuse because of the FORD script and licensing and legal concerns. Since this is an uncommon stamp for your application why don’t you send me a PM or email if you have it and we’ll discuss off thread
