Painting the Dash

I repainted the lower metal part of the dash on my 67 standard. I chose to use the charcoal metallic that’s used on the XR-7 since the existing dash looked like it already had a metallic flake and I’m not trying to be concours correct. It came out looking good except for a little overspray in places so the surface isn’t as smooth as I would like. Any recommendations on how to smooth it without removing the gloss? Also, should I leave this paint as the final coat or cover it with a clear semi gloss? Thanks in advance.

I always use a clear semi gloss on top of everything, protection

Overspray…rubbing compound, maybe a clay bar. But, if you decide to clear it, it could cone back to haunt you if you don’t clean it off really good.

Thanks for the recommendations. The overspray isn’t too bad so I think I might just try and rub it out. I have a piece of scrap metal that I’ll paint and practice on, with the clear semi-gloss too. The weather didn’t cooperate today so maybe tomorrow.

try wet sanding before clear. Should help smooth things out and unify the finish.

I had my body guy paint my dash when he did the car. Its the same color as the exterior and clear coated as well. Came out well IMO

Hello everyone,

may I ask which clear semi gloss you use? This one:

SEM 40913 1K HS semi gloss

Thanks and regards
