Park brake handle for 1968?

I pulled an extra park brake lever from my last donor car, and thought it would be a quick and easy fix to replace the plastic handle. But no. I cut the old stump off and tried to test fit the new one on. But I’m not sure if the end of the assembly is supposed to have this end? Can I just file it down and smooth the edge?

Its been my experience to push out the knureled pin and the handel slides off.

You have removed most of the metal and the plastic cover. Now you just need to remove the pin. Generally it will come out with vice grips. If you are lucky.

Oh, so the metal sleeve, also has to come off? I knew the pin had to come out, to install the new part, I didn’t realize the sleeve also gets removed, and then not re-installed-

That metal sleeve, would have been inside the handle.

Ah.
The replacement handle doesn’t have one, and won’t fit over the sleeve. Makes perfect sense.

Yes.
