I have a set of tyres on my 1970 XR7 convertible that are P225/50R15.
They are low-profile tyres. I have always thought that they look too small and don’t properly fill the wheel arches.
The speedo is all up the creek as well because the circumference is too small, so I keep getting speeding fines.
I like white letter tyres, esp BFG branded ones.
The guy at my local tyre shop recommended that I get a set of BF225/60R15.
They aren’t cheap, so I want to make sure that they will look right.
I have a set of (repro) Magnums with spinners.
As far as I know, the car rides at factory height.
Does anyone have a photo of a 1969 or a 1970 with a set of BF225/60R15 white letter tyres on them?
Ideally it would be a convertible with a set of Magnums at factory height, but I don’t want to appear fussy!
Mine has 235/60/15 tires on 15X7 Magnum 500’s. I think this is the best size for 69-70 Cougars as they fill the wheel well with no rubbing issues.
Wondering about the small tires and speeding tickets as smaller tires would make the car go slower than the indicated speed.
I know this fact, so think I can go faster, etc, etc…
They look good!
Do you have a profile view?
Thanks.
Visit my profile or have a look at either the CCOA West Regional show review magazine or the current issue of Legendary Cougar Magazine for additional photos.
235/60 R15 are the closest fit at 26.1 inches diameter
Thanks guys.
The 235s look grouse. (See: http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/grouse )
I have a set on order and I can’t wait. I just need to check my wheels to make sure they fit.
Fully sick!
The duck’s nuts!
Here is what it looks like with 215/70R15 on 15" magnum 500, standard stock suspension (collapsed a little as front coil springs need be replaced).
Awwe maaannn … they look good too!
Are they a slightly higher profile tyre than on Jeff’s car above? Dan’s look like they have more air in them.
Well as far as I understand tire numbers, yes mine would be higher profile (70) than Jeff’s (60) and you are definitely lower profile at 50.
However mines are much narrower (215) than Jeff’s (235), you are in between at 225. Width is not visible on the profile view. 215 is Ok for stock appearance but definitly too narrow for a thick performance look (looking at back as when you follow).
