Popular Hot Rodding Cougar

Looks like Popular Hot Rodding has finished their Cougar build and it is on the cover of the latest edition.

Was thumbing thru the article and see that Don and WCCC gets a call out.

Cool! :beerchug:

I’ll have to see more pictures of the Cougar build because I don’t like the hood or the stripe from that cover shot. Maybe after seeing more pictures I might like it.

Wild Wes Adkins is in the article and did the paint and body work on the Cougar for Popular Hot Rodding. He is also the owner of the Black 427 twin turbo Cougar that was at SEMA, and is currently touring the autorama circuit with it. He did some good updates on both projects on his Facebook page (427 Wildcat). He doesn’t have them on his business home page, but here it is:

The scoops in the hood are suppose to create down force

Yep! Wild Wes is local to me. I’ve been following BOTH projects. One correction though. The 427 Wildcat has twin “superchargers”.

Tavis Highlander created the look of the Max Effort Cougar. On the bottom is his original concept (based on the Shelby’s '67 Terlingua Trans-Am Mustangs) and then his revised concept at top. It is a bit of a mixed metaphor, combining elements of the Bud Moore TA Cougars, the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake and GT40.

Some very cool and expensive Cougar builds tho, which is good to see.

While I understand the heritage, I’m not feeling the red. I liked more sedated earlier rendering a bit more.

I agree. It’s kind of growing on me after looking at the renderings Philip posted.
Steven

I like it…in BOTH renditions. They should do another in the sedated rendering.

The renderings almost always look better!

For me the red is an example of not understanding the heritage so much.

Love Ross Myer’s BME Cougar, but it is painted the wrong color red. The BME Cougars were the factory Cardinal Red, which is a darker and to me more “luxurious” red.

But when a TA Cougar toy is done, or if someone does a Cougar build they reference the Myer’s Cougar and that bright tomato red.

I think the Shelby Super Snake Mustang reference is miss-placed. Very, very cool car but there are plenty of very cool historic Cougars to draw inspiration from.

BUT - these are just opinions. Over all I really dig it. Love the grill and love the body mods. The '67 is such a nice, clean and uncluttered body style.

Did anyone see what he did with the roof line on this car. I love it and I personally think it is just what this car needed.

I really like it! I would like to see pictures of the car from the side and rear in the daylight.
Steven

What I did was look up in google, Wes Adkins cougar or black cougar and just went though as much as you can find. There is one link that has quite a bit on the car. These are some of the only one’s I could find from the side that are not too far away.

I was following his progress when he was putting it together before SEMA, he has a Facebook page…this car is amazing, I think the stance as well as the other compliments given here is unreal.

RADICAL!!!

I was able to see Wes’ car at Sema. He really did some amazing stuff to that car. The intakes for both superchargers are plumbed to the original cowl. Lots of creative stuff. The rear pillar to me is just pure sweetness though…

Check that, the intake was plumbed to the cowl.

If you go to the 427 Wildcat facebook page , you can see quite a bit about this Cougar, this thing is pretty dam bad ass.

My local grocery store has the Popular Hot Rodding issue with the white Cougar on the cover in stock now.
