Portland, OR area shops?

Hi all,

I’ll be coming into posession of a '69 standard hard top that has been in the family since it was new (my grandfather was the salesman) and it is in need of some recommissioning work as it has been sitting in a storage unit for a number of years. As well as some general inspection/once over before I sink a bunch of effort and time into it on my end. I’ve talked to Cascade Classics and WCCC but both of them are unfortunately pretty stacked schedule wise. Does anyone have a recommendation for a Portland area shop? The car is very original so I want to get things done right on it as well as get an experts opinion on what I need to address first.

Additionally, has anyone had any luck here with dry ice blasting? The car was Zeibart coated underneath when it was new (New Jersey) and I’d like to strip it all while hopefully avoiding the hassle of more aggressive media blasting/paint.

I currently do all of my own work and have a 1960 Land Rover and a 1986 Ford Country Squire, my background is in mostly automotive focused mechanical engineering so I am no stranger to turning a wrench.

Thanks!
Kellen

Kellen,

If you don’t find anybody that does dry ice blasting, you may want to also consider (baking) soda blasting. Not nearly as abrasive as other forms of media, and it left the surface extremely clean.

Not in Portland but Taylor restoration just did a Cougar for guy that lives very close to John Benoit and it looks like the trip to Phoenix more than paid for itself. Check out Taylor Restoration.

Yes, I sent him to Scott Taylor as I was at least 2 years out on any complete restoration. Their labor rates are also lower down south than up here in the Pacific Northwest!

Thanks for the tips everyone, I sent an email to Rose City Mustangs, hopefully I can get it sorted soon.
