Possible GTE engine

The Mustangranch in Colorado is selling a 427 engine with this VIN stamped in it: 8F91W532500
Jim P. is this from one of our favorite cars?

Yes, the car is in the Registry, of course without the engine.

How much?

Latest news from the guy who owns Mustang Ranch in CO. is that he has two center oiler 427 engines; one of which ā€œmay haveā€ the heads with the indicated vin numbers; more as the news develops.

Here is his original ad.

This 427 Center oiler date code 4-D-5 was removed from a 1967 Shelby GT 500. Prior to that by the special identification number on the back of the block and intake 8F91W532500 we believe this motor was used in a marine application. Ford 2x4 intake and carbs plus factory duel point distributor. It is a builder motor and does not come with the headers, starter and bell housing. There is no guarantee or warranty on this motor. Please call and ask as many questions as you like. Best regards, Rich at TMR 303-931-5412 $5,500 or best offer.

Hmmā€¦ a lot of ā€œmarine applicationā€ engines received VIN stamps? I guess if it ainā€™t a Mustang the fellahs at the Ranch canā€™t be bothered to research it a little bit?

Well, sounds like a good opportunity to reunite the car with the engine! So, what is the status of the car? Is it a rusty wreck, or a nice driver? Curious minds want to know.

It has a GT-E VIN stamp on the back side of the driver side head. The block is a 1964 427 center oiler. Not necessarily marine at all. Marine engines did not get a VIN.

To be clear, definately not a GT-E engine, sounds like at least one GT-E head.

The original ad says the VIN is on the back of the block and intake which is incorrect.
