Is there anybody that re chromes pot metal anymore? I’m sure this has been asked/discussed before, but I can’t search a 3 letter word like “pot”.
My chrome guy does.
Charlie’s Chrome Tulsa OK
It does not always turn out. If it’s full of corrosion under the chrome it comes back all screwed up. He will chrome another one for free if that happens.
I realize this is a bit late, however I believe it should be answered. There are many who still will replate pot metal parts however, there are only a handful of them that will fill pinholes and or crators.
Their problem with pot metal is that if you see decay on the outside, chances are it will be decayed on the inside of the casting. This leads to gasing off during and after plating if it is not carefully removed and welded (not soldered)/ filled.
Yeah, pot metal parts are a headache, but not impossible to restore them.
I will not post any links unless they’re requested k. Just let me know and I’ll get ya connected.
Thanks
Yes Sir, These chrome shops now a days, all they want to do is the easy stuff. Makes me crazy!
Any/all leads are good to have for everyone’s benefit. Thanks for chiming in.

Wow! Looks like I revived this post? Thanks awesome guys.
Thanks for posting that shop contact. I’m always looking for shops for clients.
Thanks again.
I had the chrome removed from my pot metal parts. then I sealed the indentations with special solder. After that, it will be chromed normally and look perfect.

D & R Chrome in Huntington Park, CA. Just got my ‘70 headlight covers back from them last week. They look great…and West Coast Cougar uses them, so how can you go wrong?!
Here’s a '65 Impala qtr glass frame we just restored. It came from a chrome shop broken as you see in the one “before” photo.
We polish the part after repair to make sure there aren’t any remaining issues…
Here’s one more. This is a '41 Cadillac vent window frame we created by scanning the oposite side…

Thanks for the shop drop brother. it’s much apprecaited!!
Well, I have a totallly different experience with D&R. Unless they have decided to do things better lately I am far from impressed. A friend of mine had his bumpers done there and they were not great and started to rust very soon. On my 68 Mercury Park Lane the chrome on the bumpers peeled off after months. Also the rear bumper which I told them to straighten looked like a banana after they had finished with it. I will never ever use them again.
What I will recommend is either Northstar Plating in Minnesota or AIH chrome in Dubuque, Iowa. Expensive but well worth it as quality is first class. Just google them and find out for yourself.
