Have a good squeal when I rev it up from say 1,000 to 2,000 rpm. Sometimes on start. Or when the a/t kickdown is used.
Mostly annoying. I took off that belt and the alternator belt - no squeal. Put the p/s belt on and got the squeal. The belt also runs the water pump. Could that make the squeal?
Anyway, the belt is in good shape but with the naked eye it doesn’t like it’s perfectly aligned with the crank and water pump pullies.
Yeah, it’s not making noise idling, or running. Only hear it if the rpm goes over 1,000 during start, or if I get into aggressively while driving and it’s between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm.
WCCC has a power steering spacer for my car WITHOUT a/c. It is listed as 7/16 i.d. by 3/4 inch. My car came with a/c, but it has been removed. My “spacer” nut and washers are about 1/8 inch shy of 3/4 inch, so by eyeball it appears this spacer would work.
I can’t see why an a/c compressor would affect proper spacing? Side note -this original used spacer is about $30. A repro is $6.
IIRC, the A/C bracket(s) use a common bolt, mounting point etc.
That’s why the spacer was used to "make up the thickness of A/C bracket(s) in non A/C Cats.
Most of the 70 carryover Windsors were put in w/ a 2V carb and 4 speed trans.
The 70 Windsor for example had a few major changes.
1st. The radiators are now crossflow, the water pump was clocked to 5 o’clock from 7o’clock. (looking at motor)
2nd. the power steering pump bracket is now stamped steel. Both 351 motor used the same pump bracket. No longer was the aluminum C9 part used.
3rd. The pulleys are different. Can’t recall exactly, but I believe it was crank & H2o. The PS pump pulley was now dome shaped.
I added two washers to get the 3/4 inch spacer previously provided by the a/c compressor bracket. I used a wonderbar/superbar to gain leverage between the bolt and the bracket. I did it myself, but it would be better with two people - one levering the wonderbar and one tightening the bolt.
