Power Steering pump reservoir

Hello, Wrenchturners! I have removed my power steering pump, due to an acute leak. All the other power steering components have been replaced, including the hoses, and I am still leaking. It appears that the leak is coming from the pump and blowing back down the underside of the Cat. Anyway, I have removed the nut around the center nipple, but I cannot get the reservoir off the thing. Does the pully have to be removed before the res is removed? How do you get the reservoir off without damaging it? I put a picture of the pump here, so you can see what type it is.

Thanks, guys!

Ok, here’s the picture…

Anyone?

Clamp the pump in the vise with the pulley downward, then take a piece of 2 x 4 and lay it up at the lip of the reservoir. Gently tap the 2 x 4 with a hammer or mallet and work your way around doing the same. The reservoir will come up and off. The nut of course needs to be off at the pressure output, you knew this already.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Robert

Thanks, Robert. I have decided to send it out for rebuild and restoration. I will keep this in mind in case I have to do it again.
