Can someone please tell me what the correct color the power steering pump reservoir is suppose to be painted on a 69 Cougar XR7 390 4V engine. Also what is the correct Blue the engine should be painted? Thank you.
Power steering is what I would call teal, kind of a blue/green color. Ford Corporrate Blue (dark blue)
It was a dark metallic teal/blue.
What brand makes the closest match to the original blue color? Also who makes the teal color for the power steering pump reservoir?
You can get the teal power steering pump paint from National Parts Depot.
Thank you
Your power steering pump could be black. There is a tag on the back that will determine if it is a “TRW” or “Ford Thompson”.
The Ford Thompson will be identified by a “F” on the middle line and will be painted Dark Blue Metallic.
The TRW will be identified by a “W” on the bottom line and will be painted Black.
The tag also contains a date code which can be read as follows.
Ford = Year, Month, Day, Shift
TRW = Month,“W”, Day, Year.
Information from Kevin Marti’s, “The Mustang and COUGAR Tagbook (1965-1973 models).”
I recently purchased the teal paint from National Parts Depot, and I think the color is pretty darn close to the original. I would recommend it.
Thanks. I also purchased paint from them. Looks dead on.
