I am seeking a Maroon '67 Cougar with a black vinyl top and black interior to give to my wife as a replacment for the one that she had as a young girl. I promised her on our wedding day that I would find one for her. She keeps telling me that it is not important for me to, but, a wedding promise is a wedding promise. I am not looking for a showcar, but, one that she can drive daily> Her original one had a 289, with an automatic transmission, so that is what I want to make sure that she has. We were freinds for many years, ( 25) before admitting our feelings0 never had kids or were married before, so I truly want to keep my promise to her. Can anyone help a vet and a retired railroader out here?
Out of curiosity, do you happen to have the VIN for her Cougar on some old paperwork? It’s possible that her car is still out there.
Good places to find the VIN are on old registration paperwork and insurance paperwork. You could also try contacting your insurance agent and see if they still have the VIN on file. Likewise, you can try contacting your DMV and request your vehicle registration history, which would have the VIN as part of that info.
What part of the country are you located in? It might help generate some leads for you to chase down by providing some more info. You should be able to find a driver quality car but it’s going to take some leg work and time. A lot more projects and rust buckets floating around than decent cars so searching is required. Hope you can find one.
Hey beachboy64, so I think I may owe you an apology. Your story sounded too familiar to be purely coincidental. Back in April of 2021 I purchased my 67 from a consignment dealer here in my home state of New Hampshire. I recall being told there was another interested party in CA who was looking to possibly buy the car for his wife who had a maroon/ black vinyl 67. I went to look at the car and immediately put down a thousand dollar deposit. It is very likely I was the SOB who beat you to the punch. Ironically I had the same thing happen to me in late 2018 when I, after expressing a serious interest to the dealer in TX, was told a buyer came in with cash in hand and… I am writing to apologize but I am not interested in selling my Cougar. I decided to invest in a repaint this year and have discovered I will be replacing both complete rear quarters. A reference to mr_580’s advice. I’m not sure if I screwed you or saved you! Sold new out of Massachusetts it has likely spent its entire life here in the Northeast. Find a good one out there, paint it maroon and install a new top. Another bizarre twist is I too am a retired railroader
