Converted my 67 to disc brakes using an SSBC kit. At times the pedal is hard. Just wanted some input on the PV plumbing. I have a five port DB. Should the PV be plumbed into the DB or straight to the master cylinder. I did not have enough vacuum so I installed a pump, vacuum is not a problem. THANKS !!!
More info., did you put disc front and rear or just front, are you using the single MS or dual MC, is the PV adjustable or part of DB, rear brake line goes to DB then to PV and then on to rear brakes usually.
It has a double bowl and the PV is adjustable.Disc are just on the front.
A proportioning valve limits brake pressure to the rear brakes. You can mount it anywhere in the line that leads from the MC to the rear brakes.
BTW I tried using a vacuum pump purchased from SSBC on my '67 The Tool and it was unsatisfactory. Crazy loud and it did not provide adequate vacuum for repeated brake applications. Hated it.
The hard peddle “at times” has me wondering if there are times where your brakes feel correct? Then the paddle gets hard after repeated stops?
Not an expert on conversions at all but do you have a vacuum reservoir/canister in the system?
Just my $.02 from guys who have aggressive cams but drive on the street. Unless you have a truck size vacuum pump (which is big, expensive, noisy) you should have a vacuum canister attached to the pump. The brake booster can empty the hose from a direct connection immediately and not provide any ‘power stopping’.
