I have a few simple questions. I am helping a friend finish a '67 standard hardtop. My first question is this- Would I detract from the overall cars value if I added some XR7 trim pieces to the standard? The car was unfortunately molested and setup for racing by the previous owner, and now we’re trying to get it back to (or close to) it’s former glory. What I am most interested in is the XR7 interior lights (the roof mounted assy. by the rear view mirror) and the two C-pillar units. At present there are no interior lights, and the heater/AC was also removed (going back in SOON!!!) There are also a few external trims pieces I am curious about as well. Those would be the two pieces (one on each side) of rocker panel trim. I have them in my posession, Just want to know if it would be acceptable to do these changes. Again, I don’t want to detract from the value of the car. Merely want to enhance the appearance and possibly value of the vehicle. Thanks in advance for your help.
IIRC, the '67 rocker panel trim should be 7 “hash mark” type pieces per side.
edit, yup, hash marks, 67 XR7… http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/c77xr7-rockertrim-set.html
First statement I’ll make on “value”, is, it’s his car, he should feel free to do whatever he likes.
Second, if it’s a “plain vanilla” standard, then no, you won’t be detracting from it’s value at all…IMO.
“Acceptable”…that’s up to you/him. What may be acceptable to one, may not be to another…
Thank you for the response. Mainly concerned with car shows and judging.
I might be wrong but unless it’s a concourse type of show I don’t think the average person would notice. Usually most local car shows have modified and production class. So just pick the proper class. The owner should always enjoy their car and if making changes makes them happy that’s what matters.

Thank you, Steven. I appreciate your input. I truly don’t believe the shows around here come close to concourse. But, you never know, with my luck there’ll be a Cougar fan judging the car. At the same time, I don’t want to let the owner down, either. Trying to get the headlight doors working from the vacuum off the headlight switch. Previous “mechanic” rigged up some electric/vacuum/toggle combo. Makes me cringe!!! I’ll have to post pics after I detail the car. Thanks again! Have a great day!!

By the way, Steven, checked out your photos. That’s a beatiful car!! Certainly something to be proud of, as I am sure that you are!
Thanks for the kind words.
