It’s been awhile since I’ve posted some pics of Q-vert. Duluth got about 2 hours of sunshine this weekend, so I decided to take advantage of it and snap some pics.
This picture has the Lift Bridge in the background. The ships enter St. Louis Bay under the bridge, and it is a focal point for tourists - a major part of our local economy.
Iron ore is a big part of the regional economy. The steel in our Cougars was most likely made from ore mined from Minnesota’s iron range. Ford was a major investor in the Fairlane taconite processing plant in Forbes and the Thunderbird mine in Eveleth (home of Hockey Hall of Fame). You can see an ore dock in the background and, if you look close, an ore boat.
Ships come from all over the world. The “salties” mostly take on grain from the elevators in the background in this picture.
Still have a few things to sort out on the car, but it’s 98% there.
Nice looking vert, glad you got it out for a spin. We’re in the rainy season here so it rains about every day, but I did get my vert out for a nice spin yesterday before the skies oopened up again
It’s an original that I got from Randy Goodling. Fits around the perimeter nicely, but the top doesn’t fold down enough to get the inside corners fully seated in the snap groove. I’m hoping with some use the top will fold up a little tighter.
On my previous car, I bought a reproduction boot cover from JCC. It didn’t fit so good - seemed too large. I eventually found an original for that car too.
Thanks for posting those pics. It really turned out amazingly well. I hope that the weather turns for you and you get to do a little more top down driving. Congratulations!
No story - just saw it on eBay and had to have it. Actually, twice. I got one in dark aqua from the same seller (matched my previous car) and then saw this one in the green for the current car. I usually have the model on the car at local shows and it gets more comments than the car.
Does the seller “customize” these models to put the “patina” on them? Also, I don’t think I ever saw a '69 convertible model. got an ebay seller name for us?
The seller was 86capri50. He had a whole junkyard of car models a few years ago. This must be a sub-genre for model builders, as I’ve seen other sellers doing them too. Near as I can tell, they use heat to make dents and rust holes in otherwise normal model kits.
Do a search for junkyard model car and several different sellers show up (no Cougars at the moment, but maybe you can commission one).
Thanks Rob. BTW (and please take this in the spirit intended), you need to get or make some foam pads for under your top boot. The top frame looks kind of like some breasteses in a tight top in a cool breeze if you know what I mean.
The Distinctive Industries repros have the padding built in.
