Racing Mirror Question

I have a driver’s side racing mirror C9WB-17743-C. I would like to find a matching passenger side mirror – don’t need a remote. Can anyone help me with the part number I should be looking for – better yet, locating one for me? (I don’t want to buy something and then find its not the correct match.)

The correct one has a D0OB part number. It would be the same as a 1970 Torino. But a mid 70s T-bird, Cougar, LTD II mirror will work. They are remote, but you can remove that mirror head and buy a reproduction Mirror head that is correct. The base is a little shorter, but unless you know what they should look like no one will know. I have one on Ginger.
You also could use one from a 71 to 73 Cougar. Look is closer. I do not recall the part number.

This one would work for you. But check out the others that show up on the page.

Thanks badcatt, but the e-bay mirror (the link you provided) is not a very good match for mine. I posted my note showing my left side C9WB part No. prefix hoping there was a correct (matching) RH mirror for 69 Cougars. I was guessing that should be a part also starting with C9W – have been looking on e-bay for a while but haven’t seen anything. In short, I’m looking for the correct match for the mirror I have. Any advice on where I can find that part number?

There is no RH match with the C9WB, only the 70 had a RH mirror which badcat has stated is DOOB and fits different car lines.

My wife’s '79 thunderchicken has driver/passenger racing mirrors and look pretty darn close to the other you described. I bought some aftermarket ones for Dad for his LTD that aren’t remote, but are very close in appearance to the old Ford racing mirrors off of ebay for something like $30. They are a little bigger, but you can actually see what’s on your quarter panel.

here’s the link for those:http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLASSIC-STYLE-BLACK-SPORT-MIRRORS-VINTIQUE-MUSCLECAR-RESTOMOD-HOTROD-KIT-/281765922306?fits=Year%3A1969|Make%3AMercury|Model%3ACougar|Submodel%3ABase|Engine+-+Liter_Display%3A5.0L&hash=item419a8ec602:g:6AUAAOSw~gRVwYhj&vxp=mtr

And for the 69/70 racing mirrors: Rh:http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=RM69R+01

Didn’t see anything for the mid 70s Ford ones, but that seems to change by the hour on ebay, so I would hit them on a regular basis.

Both 69 and 70 L/H mirrors have the C9WB- part number. In 1969 Mercury did not offer a R/H Racing mirror for the Cougar. So no C9WB- part to be found. The information I gave earlier is for what was used for the 1970 Cougar. And what I used works well.

This mirror mounts jut out side of the the XR-7 Stainless window trim in the concave area. The L/H mirror has a flat space on the top of the door but the passengers side does not. I find the mirror to be more decorative than functional. It always vibrates out of aliment and is small. But can be helpful.
Good luck finding what you need. I hope I have been of some small help.

Thanks to everyone for the input on racing mirrors. Not ever being a C9WB for passenger side explains why I haven’t seen one. It looks like my C9WB has a shorter (and a little different) base than the Torino Mirrors, so if I want an exact match, I probably need to be looking for two instead of just one. Thanks again!

As I said before the mod 70s T-bird Ect. mirror works well. The base is a little shorter and IMHO looks better then the D0OB- R/H mirror used by the factory. Mustang, Pinto, Maverick/Comet mirrors all mount to the side of the door and do not look good on a Cougar.(I used one back in the 80s). When I get a little time I’ll get you the number of the base and measure the base too. I do have a D0OB- R/H mirror on my convertible and can get that too. But may be Sunday before I can get to it.
Good luck with the search.
