Can anyone give me some help , Mabey step by step in replacing the rag joint on a 67 with power steering. The joint has alot of play in it. I am assuming it has never ben replaced. Much appreciated!
This assumes you do not have a tilt column.
Two ways to get it out. First remove the two nuts holding the steering column shaft to the rag joint. Next remove the bolt holding the rag joint to the steering box. Now you have a choice. Remove the steering column so you can get the rag joint off the steering box or remove the three bolts holding the steering box to the frame to lower the box so you can remove the rag joint. As a side note, the rag joint only goes on the steering box splines in one position so don’t try to force it back on.
Hope this helps.
I found it easier to remove the steering box myself… even with headers which required me to remove the driver’s side header as well.
But I replaced the rag joint with a billet universal joint that I had custom made from Flaming River.
It helps that their headquartes is about a 30 minute drive from me.
