Ramps used for cougars?

Do our cougars drive up on ramps without bottoming out? Thinking about picking up the set in picture.

Thanks!
Mark

It depends on how low your car is. Mine would never clear those. I have custom built ramps just to drive up on before I can get the floor jack underneath it.

Regardless of which car I’m working on, any time I’ve used ramps like those, I’ve jacked up the car and then placed the ramp under the hanging wheel and tire. I’ve seen more than once someone driving over the top of those.

I have never used ramps like you pictured but they look pretty tall to me. I’ve used ramps made from stamped metal, wood and even cheap plastic ones. The problem I have had with those types of ramps is either the tire slips and spins (front wheel drive) or the ramps slides (both front and rear wheel drive cars). I’ve had ramps actually shoot out and leave the car on one ramp when driving up on one of those cheap ramps. Not fun! Again, I have never used ones that look like what you are looking at.
However the best ramps I ever bought were from Race Ramps. I have never had a problem driving up them even with wet tires. The ones I have are 7 or 8 inches high and the ramp part is removable so you can gain access from the side. I know they are expensive but I highly recommend them as the safest ramps I have ever used. I’ve been considering building this contraption. Those ramps look a bit steep on entry, would have to be nailed down pretty good to keep the tires from shoving them.

I use ramps but I don’t typically - read never - drive up them. I turn the driver side ramp the normal way and jack that front wheel with the floor jack under the lower A - arm. Warning - the parking brake must be set and the rear wheels chocked.

Then I jack the other side and turn the ramp the opposite direction. End result - the car cannot roll off the ramps.

Get your self a good floor jack and jack stands.

I’ve gotta side with the prior person, if you accidently drive over it it you are screwed!

I plan on getting a Quickjack BL-5000SLX with the extentions.

I use the two piece Race Ramps. Originally needed for my slightly lowered Mustang, but will be nice for the Cougar.

I do have jacks and stands just thought this may another Easy option
Thanks for the info.

I use these alot at work and home. We have even parked an F550 on a set of these. They are legit.

My cougar is about 2" lower in the front over stock and have no issue driving up on them. Use your brain when lining up and driving up and you will be fine. You would have to being going up way too fast to drive over the hump and end up on the other end. I can get he car up high enough to swap the transmission on these ramps with the rear on jackstands.

I also like the race ramps and have been wanting to get a set. being able to remove the ramp section is a huge plus as its always in the way. A set of quickjacks would also be awesome too but obviously much more expensive and gotta put them somewhere when not in use.

x2 - mine resemble that, but I got them from the town dump (they were in the “swap” pile), LOL.

Those look like a good place to store tools (or even whiskey)- just leave the stuff you usually only use underneath the car inside the ramps. Put cabinet doors on them so even when they’re stacked against the wall, you can still get at your tools (or whiskey).

Guys have put Spot Lamps in them for doing work also. My only worry is that I would lean against the car at the end of the day and it would fall over sideways.

X3 on the Rhino ramp. Those things are awesome. I use them for all my vehicles. Oil changes in my daughter’s mini and civic, along with my truck and of course the Cougar. No issues ever with them sliding forward while driving up slowly. Well worth the small investment.

I hate to be a downer but everyone, please be careful when working under your cars !
A few games years ago a friend of mine was crushed and died while under his car.
He’s was very experienced in home mechanics and it was probably this that lead to complacency.
Don’t rely on jacks alone like my friend Steve did.

Good woods of wisdom, It is very true with the more experience you have the more comfortable you become with the equipment your using such as trusting a floor jack alone. Or taking the shield off the grinder for that one hard to get to cut. I have been guilty of it before as I’m sure a lot of other professionals have been. I get that gut feeling that tells me “don’t be dumb stupid” that makes me rethink what I’m doing.

I picked up a set of rhino ramps. Work great. Don’t slip when driving on and good height.
Thanks for all the info
