I am interested in the XR-7 dash. I am restoring a ‘67 standard, (restomod) & am curious when the parts will be available?
I currently have a Classic Dash for it, but your unit appeals more to me. I have the Auto meter gauges for the Classic Dash & would have to measure for fit to your design.
Can the dash parts be done without the chrome?
Thanks

The dash will only be available in the finished version. What I would suggest for your build is to buy one of the many original dash panels that are going to be available as soon as these arrive.
It would actually cost more to offer the unfinished version due to the increased complexity and the increased inventory. We have automated the finishing process to ensure the quality of the product so we are talking about the cost of materials. This may be hard to understand but we are just barely running enough production to make it viable in one version.
There is a member here who has done exactly what you want with an XR7 dash and it looks amazing look for Diesel D
Thanks for the response. Will the XR-7 dash have the Walnut appliqué,

I am not reproducing that part at this time, so it is just the plastic dash that goes behind the wood grain covered metal pieces.
Is there a reason why you are swapping out gauges? The originals can be calibrated and made to be accurate. It’s really inexpensive.
The car I’m restoring is a regular 67 Cougar. I am doing a restomod, 347 FI, 5 spd, 9” 3:73, 17” wheels, rack & pinion, 2019 Mustang power seats, a/c, 4 wheel discs, lots of suspension upgrades, etc.
I had a 68 XR-7 4 sp, f code many years ago.
Liked the dash.
Simple answer is I don’t have a set of original gauges.

NICE! Be sure and post how you did the seats. I would really like to do that in one of my cars. I’m sure we could scare up a set of gauges for you if you wanted to keep the factory look. One thing that I have done to help is to reproduce the gauge lenses and I added a new one to the kit: Volts. The Amp meter was the most difficult thing to make work when putting XR7 gauges in a standard. Rocketman sells a volt gauge that looks factory and then you don’t have to try to recreate the voltage shunt for the Amp meter. You will need to change the sender for the oil pressure guage but that is easy.
Like was mentioned I have done this to a factory xr7 gauge set and imo came out 100% better then using anything aftermarket. I was able to find a decent deal on a complete xr7 dash set at the time I believe it was about 300bucks and I offset some of that cost by selling the parts I did not need. I used speedhut gauges over autometer for a couple reasons, one big plus was the way they mount. They have a large ring that screws onto the gauge body to hold it to the dash so all I had to do was enlarge the holes and trim any of the screw bosses off. The tricky part is you do need to be gentle since you are working with 50+ year old plastic and it can be brittle. I also repainted everything and used a vinyl wrap over the wood grain panels.
If your wanting a chrome variant I would suggest going with these new one since available as you will not be able to restore the chrome cheaply. However I bet once these hit the market the cost of good used ones with drop substantially unless it’s a pristine example.
Anyway pictures do more justice
When I’m down at the shop will take a pic of the frame they built. Removed the factory riser plate, built a roughly 1” frame with appropriate attaching bolts both sides.
I called Midlife wiring harness & described what I am doing. PW, PdL, electric fans, 140 amp alt, battery in trunk, electric fuel pump, 22 gal tank.
His firm recommendation was to go with the harness kit that I acquired.
Doing this will make the car 12v for everything (unless I missed something), no (hopefully) resistors. I’ll check & see what the engine builder uses for sending units.
If I’ve got it wrong, PLEASE ADVISE!
For the record, it’s getting Wildberry Tri coat and a saddle interior. Was Burgandy/maroon (X), originally with UD interior.
I’m relatively new to this web sight, so how do I post to you only, or do you think I should post to the general group?

OK, so I’m back from the shop. Some photos will be posted to the forum later today.
Please put me down for one of your XR-7 dash products. Further, if you have a set of gauges as mentioned, those would be wonderful.
When the shop owner & I looked at your dash, and visualized the Auto Meter sport comp gauges in your product, our collective response was UGH!
I’m returning the Classic dash & gauges tomorrow.
Please keep me updated on your product availability.

I know this is not a very polished video but I was excited to get something out there. Link to the listings on the WCCC is below the video. I will have detailed pictures on the site next week. Wow, Bill’s hard work, tenacity and attention to detail has really paid off in spades. I assume that by installing these on your car it will add $1000 to the value of most cars. I am not at all exaggerating. Getting originals restored has been so very PAINFUL!
That’s awesome, they look great! Love the thought and attention that went in to making these better than OEM.
I saw these laying on the table yesterday at work. They are incredible, the chrome is cool to the touch, like touching metal. They are much sturdier feeling than the originals, maybe even a bit heavier by weight?
