Rear brake line retaining hardware?

OK- So the saga with my rear diff, now after a few miles of break in driving, continues- To recap, when I got the car, it had a 58~ish Ranchero differential under it. I recently found out, that the shock mounting plates that were on the car, were actually Mustang sway bar pieces. So having replaced the shock plates, with Cougar parts, and having solved all my carb fuel leaks, (I HOPE!)

The car has now got about 25 miles of break in drive time.

I wanted to replace the Ranchero differential with a correct, 9 inch Ford unit, and was able to do that. 3.89 rear gear and Detroit locking center section.

Several years ago now, (at least 14) I had some exhaust work done, and the solution for the wrong, low hanging brake lines, that were wrong for the car, was to yank the brake lines under the car. So as I try to put the right parts, back on the car, I find that my shorty exhaust, still wants to rub the brake line, where it comes down from the body, as it transitions over the axle tube. I have a correct vent line, connected to a correct vent fitting. But the bracket, that holds the junction block doesn’t want to line up, regardless of the exhaust. I have a very short 5/16 bolt that is in the hole, where it looks like it should be to retain the junction block and bracket. But, the angle of the bracket is “wrong”, and the bolt doesn’t seem long enough. has anyone got theirs apart and can tell me WTF this stupid thing is SUPPOSED to look like? This is getting to be beyond frustrating trying to install correct parts. you would think it would be easier to install the right parts where there was nothing, but….

Breather hose barb w/ lock washer. 1969 & earlier have one hole for hose barb. 1970 have 2 holes. One for vent & other for brake hose & retainer. Different rubber hoses due to steel line size input fittings (3). The hose bolt end is angled & fits on top of the steel line retainer. Due to the amazing amount of incorrect information puplished, it’s near inpossible to get the correct steel ines & hose unless you are sure it came from a Cougar.. or mustang.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bill- The ‘new’ axle has two holes in it, and I was told it came from and was for another Mustang. I have the vent with tube in place. But the brake hose angle is just bad. I bought new brake lines from west coast. When I get new exhaust put on the car, I expect to not have the interference with the hose, but the angle still just looks wrong, and it doesn’t want to sit like you would think it would. Very frustrating.
