Rear drum brakes; are brake shoe guides needed to complete replacement? Brake Newbie

Replacing the rear drum brakes on my Cougar for the first time I noticed that both shoe guides mounted at the top of the brakes are missing. Are these required to complete the job ?

If you are referring to this part, yes it should have one on each side.

Yes. Thank you, John. Hopefully they come in today.

Depends on the backing plate post. It will have a lan/ stop that the above piece fit onto.

If no step no piece needed
