I am looking for recommendations on for a power antenna for my '68. I plan to leave it in the stock location. I see a ton of options on the internet from fairly inexpensive to ridiculous. Anyone have a particular model they recommend or warn to avoid?
Thanks, James
You said you wanted to keep it in the stock location (I’m sure you don’t want to patch a hole) - but there was a dealer installed power antenna that was mounted in the rear.
My Cougar has one and here are some photos of a '68 GT-E that has one.

One regret I have now after I painted my car was to weld up the antenna hole. What I realize now is there are not many options for antennas besides stock replacements. I would love for a small low profile antenna but cant find one to fit the fender hole. I too have thought about a power antenna so at least it fills the hole and retracts when not in use, in reality I will rarely every use the radio over bluetooth or usb options
If the power antenna was dealer installed in the rear of the car, what was done with the manual antenna hole in the fender?

I believe the antennas were installed during dealer during prep. So the hole for the antenna was cut at the dealer, so it could be put in the front or back.

Mike, if I’m following what you’re saying. A Cougar with a dealer prep for a power antenna left the factory without an antenna or hole in the fender? If so what about a radio? Would that have been dealer installed on power antenna cars? It seems strange that a Cougar would leave the factory without any type of antenna or radio.
Steven
A radio if ordered was installed on the line, as were additional speakers if anything above an AM was ordered.
Antenna’s were not installed in order to prevent potential damage in transit. The antenna including the hole in the fender were done as part of dealer prep. When they went to a screw in antenna, the base was installed, but the shaft portion was still shipped loose in the vehicle.
Yes what Dave said. I should of elaborated more in my post. If ordered radios were installed at the factory and antennas were done at the dealer to prevent shipping damage. Sorry for any confusion.
Mike
Thanks for the responses guys. At this point I am not necessarily looking for a factory antenna. Does anyone have a recommendation on a nice aftermarket that is pretty easily installed in the existing fender hole? Of course if anyone has a spare power OEM era specific antenna they want to part with at a good price, please send me a message.
You can use any one of these, but there is going to be some fabrication no matter which one you use.
