Reference parts that are painted or plain?

So, as I am still working 6 days a week, all this year, and probably next as well, progress has been slow. However, not none-a So I soaked some parts I need for assembly in evaporust, and am very pleased with the results. Specifically if the gas pedal rod is painted, or plain steel? Is there a pocket guide somewhere that details pained, plain, plated, etc? Like a show car rules book?

The Master Parts Catalog tells you the finish of every part.

I haven’t found one yet in print. Can afford. I have a cd of the catalog but haven’t learned how to search in it.

MPC will help with hardware as far as finishes but other parts (brackets, arms, mounts and other things) are not described with finishes except maybe wheels.

There are examples where the finishes differed between plants and each plants suppliers some the year, month and plant can play a big part. Though there has been a few attempts to document things like this every one I’ve seen has not been successful and correct while at the same time reflecting the plant differences mentioned above. From even the question you posted about the gas pedal rod we don’t know what year your working/asking about.

At best a place to start, though there is never all the details nor the space to include them, is to start with a set of judging rules. Since Mustangs and Cougars are so related and were built on the same assembly line within the plant (for the classic years) those would be a start. A better resource would be a good forum that focuses on that sort of details (allot just focus on drivers or modified cars) and going part by part is what will provide you with the best current information while being peer reviewed during the asking and posting of questions and answers.

As we say there is no easy button. Don’t expect one.

Hope this helps

Your may be able to find some of your answers there but don’t expect to find a full list of all of the parts your looking for in one list. And do check, as mentioned, the year and plant the thread/list is about. If your a member and lucky there may be a build thread by one of the members that relates to your car.

I’m working on my 1967 XR7- The concours link will answer most of my questions, thanks for that! While my 67 is unique in its ugly color combo, it doesn’t really merit a nut and bolt resto- However, I am trying to create as good of a fake factory 4 speed car as possible. And one of the details with the 4 speed car is the lack of kick down on the gas pedal. That is what I am curious about. It was rusty and crappy looking, and now that it is rust free, I don’t know if it needs black paint, or just clear coat.

The '67 Cougar was only built at Dearborn. AMK has a nice self tapping screw kit to mount the accelerator assembly. It was bare metal when installed, then oversprayed with sound deadener when the firewall and driveshaft tunnel were sprayed. So the bolt area will generally be coated pretty good and the rest will rust.

well poop. I guess I should not have cleaned the part- Oh well.

Neither
Originally the throttle bell crank that attaches to the firewall was phosphate and oil finished

Unfortunately you can use the search feature at the ConcoursMustang.com site if your not a member

One of the threads from there on the exact same plant and subject

Well thanks for that. I did get an account, and tried to search Cougar- NOTHING came up. So I won’t be posting there very much. But I will try and take advantage of the search function.

Seriously?? You must not have looked at the Main page very well. Scroll down and you will see all of these areas.

Wow- Trixie you are right. I didn’t spend much time there. All I do is work, commute, and pay bills. Thanks for posting these links! I should have some time to read this Sunday. Maybe.

Would not limit yourself to just Cougar responses since Cougars shared allot of the same parts and Mustangs and they were built by the same guys and hardware came from the same bins if your looking at those finishes.

Just have to look fro information about the same plant and production period. Head markings and other details changed during the production year if your getting down to the details.

Search engines can be a challenge on most ever site. All about the work choice most of the time
