Repro dash pad colors?

Does anyone offer a dash in saddle or a color that would go well with saddle?
Preferable not black.
Thanks
Mark

The available repro colors for 67-8 are black, red, blue, and green. Saddle cars came with dark brown or black dash pads in some cases. I forget if there was a rhyme or reason to which ones got which. I’d just do the black one if I were you. You could try to prep and paint one with SEM paint to approximate the dark brown, but I’d rather avoid the potential issues of painting a big urethane piece like that.

Dash pads should never be a light color because it will reflect in the windshield in the sun and be a distraction & affect visibility. Plus it looks weird.

No, they only will reproduce what came on the cars from the factory. Saddle interiors came with chocolate brown pads which are not currently offered.

Thanks for the good info.
The car has black carpet and black seat belts on the saddle interior.
Initially I thought it was changed out (black pieces) but thinking maybe it came that way from factory

Really, they only put saddle brown in saddle interior cars? I didn’t know that. Mine always had a black pad. Would that explain the 6F1 coding?

This is where there’s a little confusion. Off the cuff I want to say that XR-7’s had black, and Standards had brown, but can’t say for sure.

The trim code won’t tell you anything more than the level of interior (Standard, Decor, XR-7) and the color. So C7XR7’s example 6F is XR-7 Saddle. I’m not sure about the 1, I’ve never seen a 3 digit trim code before.

The only type of trim code that calls out the color of the components (carpet, dash pad, etc) is for white upholstery. My car has an AA code, which is Standard Parchment with Black appointments (but strangely the seatbelts were a tan color, so I’m replacing them with black).

Marti (the guy not the report) said that 6F1 meant there was some anomaly in the interior. For example, if they ran out of a certain color part they may have used something else - like subbing a black dash pad in place of a saddle dash pad. Problem is it doesn’t designate what it was that was different.

Well, ya learn something every day. That’s interesting! Must be pretty rare.

I recently bought one of the repro dash pads. They warn in the instructions not to attempt dying them because the material does not receive color well. Or it doesn’t adhere well, something to that effect. Thankfully my interior is black.

I think if I had a saddle XR-7 interior I would use a black dash pad.

Oh wait, I do and I did!

I tried painting a dash a couple years ago and it lifted badly within weeks.

If it helps I have a fairly early 1967 XR7 (Ordered 4/27/67) with saddle interior and the original dash pad was black.

Good info as usual here. Great forum
I’ll just put a repro black dash in the cougar.
I’m going to take my time and work on it here and there when I have time.
Definitely have it completed by next spring.
This restoration is for the wife. She’s pretty excited about it.
Thanks again
Mark

My '68 Cougar standard (Augusta Green) came with the dark brown dash pad and carpet. The rest of the interior was primarily saddle. My buddy’s '68 XR7 Coog (black cherry red) came with the black dash pad.

There is a dark brown dash pad on eBay. Sorry I don’t have the link.

My 67 XR7 with saddle interior has black carpet and black dash pad, saddle seats, console and seatbelts. All original as bought new by my dad.

Here it is
