Restomod 1968 xr7 - use of "modern" parts

i hope this isn’t a dumb question… are there any “modern” cars that i could scrounge components off of that i could put on a restomod xr7. Say, the front suspension and steering components off a newer mustang? or perhaps the motors/wiring of the power windows… I’m definitely a newbie at this. I want the look of the old xr7 with some of the more modern conveniences and was looking for a shortcut… haha

thanks a lot!!

I believe there are parts that can be swapped in from mid-70’s cars

Not easily. Drivetrain components (engine and transmission prior to 4.6 mod motor) are probably the easiest.

You can upgrade to later front disc rotors with a hub conversion kit

I think TCI does a front suspension kit that allows you to use Mustang coil overs

Not sure how to interpret the word “scrounge” especially when building a restomod. Direct bolt on components are pretty limited. Some nice aftermarket suspension upgrades abvailable along with upgrades to do Coyote engine swap. Don’t think the $$$ for these items are in the “scrounge” range. Best bang for the buck to me is working with original suspension and driveline. Replacing springs, shocks, aluminum rims and decent radials can give a decent ride in these cars.

Some “modern conveniences” I highly recommend to make driving more comfortable/enjoyable are: 1) either a T5 or AOD transmission swap to get the overdrive gear; 2) pertronix ignition; and 3) good tires and shocks.

Really no shortcuts to achieve what your looking for. IE hitting the junkyard for stock swappable parts. There are alot of nice aftermarket options out there but it does depend on how deep your wallet is and if you can do the work yourself. Like was mentioned you can make some mild changes to the stock suspension(springs, shocks, shelby drop etc) to improve on what you have. Or you can go with the full coilover or 4 link setups from ridetech or TCP. Or can go with the mustangII suspension kits to get you room in the engine bay for a coyote swap. These all get progressively more expensive and labor intensive to do that it might not be in your budget.

I plan to run what I have for a bit and then upgrade to a coilover setup in the front then build a 4 link for the rear. The previous owner already rebuilt the suspension on the car before I bought it so its got lowering springs on the front and stock leafs in the rear so I already have a decent suspension to use for a bit.
