restoring finish on fuel pump

What do you use to restore the finish on the fuel pump and p/s bracket after you have cleaned off 40 years of gunk

This is what it should look like

Used VHF Cast Aluminium - a bit lighter than I wanted but it looks OK

Hey guys,

I’ve been thinking about diving after a Carter X for Blackie, finally, and have found one on Ebay to track with a date code that is within 30 days…but it got me thinking-what is the story on the pump “arm”? If it has surface rust, is it a matter of just blasting/soaking and steel wooling with WD-40 and keeping oily? It is just bare metal, right?

Also, are the screws just your ordinary hardware store screws, or should I maintain the original ones (and buy a rebuild kit of course) and blast them and paint with a shiny aluminum/chrome paint, or are they going to inevitably go South in time?

Thanks for any tips. I’m not convinced I want to go to the WCCC catalog and get one that’s 540.00  (but I suppose if I can get a perfect date code??)
