I have a question. This is my first vehicle restoration, I have floor pans and torque box amongst a multitude of other items to repair, restore. The vehicle is a 67 Cougar which is pretty much stripped down except for rear axle yet to come out. I’m thinking about putting the vehicle on a rotisserie, the main question I have is can the floor pans and torque boxes be replaced when the vehicle in on the rotisserie or should I replace these items prior to mounting the vehicle on the rotisserie (my mind tells me I should do it prior, but the question still rattles round in my head).
when doing major metal replacement like that you must weld in temporary supports so unibody does not collapse. These supports will stiffen body while panels are being replaced. So if you get enough supports in the proper places you could use a rotisserie during panel replacement.
But it is also good idea to take as many frame/panel placement measurements as you can before you start any disassembly or start metal removal.
Might want to find someone that has a frame machine instead to hold all the other points in place or to establish the rest of the body back to their original locations before you install new panels. Rotisserie can’t do that
I’d definitely do your panel and torque box work off the rotisserie while on multiple (4-8) jack stands or better yet, a chassis jig. I’ve got a rotisserie that I picked up a few months ago I’m dying to get the car on but for the time being while I chop and repair major pieces I’m leveled on jack stands and have pages worth of measurements written down in a notebook so I can match after. I haven’t welded in any supports yet because I’ve tried to plan each repair so that other parts remain supported. So far, so good. Good luck with your restoration!
