After grinding down the surface rust in the trunk, I found a small problem on the drivers side in the trunk. The other rust within the trunk was just on the surface…no other holes. I’m going through the car later in the spring to verify it doesn’t have any other rust.
I’m curious on the best way to address this…I don’t have the necessary welding skills and will have to find a local shop.
I assume the best way is for a shop to cut out this small section and weld in a patch? WCCC is out of stock for this particular section, although I only need a small section. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to find a good piece in a junked car?
This guy has some great videos on how to repair rust with patchs, how to make them and how to weld them in. Look thru his videos he’s got several good ones. https://youtu.be/_u31t13QO6A
Some of the pin holes can be mig welded shut. The body mount/drain hole as Royce said can be repair with a flat piece of steel. Measure the hole dia and it can be recreated with a “knockout punch” google search to buy one. Then take it to a local welder and have it welded in. That area is over the frame rail so it’s easy to weld in. On the Cougar if the back bottom corner of the rear window has rust. It will allow water to leak into the trunk creating rust in that area. So, check the rear window bottom corners for rust.
