Saw this on craigs in my area

Curious to know if it is a G or a clone. If it is a Gurney… why turn it into a resto-mod???

That is a 1967 XR7 with a DGS sticker. If it is a true Dan Gurney Special, it would have also had an chrome engine dress up kit. Mercury made almost 20,000 DGS’s between the XR7 and Standard models.

The XR7-G is a whole 'nother animal.

That was a real source of confusion for me a little while back, the fact that the XR7-G and the Dan Gurney Special are totally different things… and the G car is the one that’s truly special!

TMH :poke: it’s all in perspective. MY DGS is truly special to me. I think it’s an option that gets a bad or looked over reputation. Some DGS’s were dealer installed by mine was a factory option listed on my Marti report. If someone is educated on what the car is then there is no confusion. I know people have been confusing the two for years ( XR7G and DGS), but to me its a option that can add just a little more to any Cougar if you know exactly what you have.

Oh for sure it’s a cool option. I didn’t mean to imply that DGS isn’t good or anything, just that the G car is more rare, valuable, and for many people it’s probably a cooler set of upgrades. But definitely nothing wrong with the DGS cars!
