I had this epiphany today while reading a post about a guy going to look at a “numbers matching” '69 trans-am that turned out to be neither numbers matching nor a T/A.
Schrodinger’s Car…
There is a car in a barn that may or may not be a numbers matching GTE. Quantum mechanics implies that at some point the car is simultaneously a numbers matching GTE and NOT a numbers matching GTE. But once you open the barn the car becomes one or the other.
If you don’t open the barn then the car still is / is not a numbers matching GTE. But if you open the barn and find the car is not a numbers matching GTE, does that mean that you destroyed a numbers matching GTE by opening the barn? Hmm…
The concept of virtualization solves this dilemma. The GT-E exists as a logical entity that is both matching and non-matching (since people will split between both states in their assumptions) until it is physically examined by one person. For that person, it may change it’s state definitively, but it remains a logical entity occupying both states for anyone who hasn’t either examined it themselves or accepted the examiners description as accurate.
In it’s virtual state, it is what it is perceived to be until a physical examination proves it to be something else entirely. In the IT world, this would equate to a “computer” that isn’t a computer at all, but actually just a file containing operating instructions.
It’s the same dilemma when viewing a gorgeous blonde from afar. Once you get close enough to converse, you discover that (1) either you’re too nervous to say anything or (2) she babbles incoherently (or chews her gum) when you say something to her, or (3) is not interested in you.
Physically, the file IS the virtual computer. When the file is opened by a physical computer that acts on the instructions contained in the file, it then appears that you have two physical computers rather than just one. They can run different things at the same time, just like two physical computers.
Well, I don’t know guys. You seemed to have ignored my advice, which was simply to “ask the cat.” It is a barn, there’s a cat in it irrespective of whether or not there is a Cougar or, for that matter, if the Cougar is a GT-E. So, by asking the cat what else is in the barn, you’d receive at least 1 of the 2 following responses:
(1) If the answer to the question was a simple Meow, then you have an empty barn or one with a regular, ordinary, but extraordinarily excellent Cougar;or, (2) if the answer to the question was a MEEEEEEEow, then of course you’d know that the Cougar in the barn (whether it be Schodingers’ or not) would be a GT-E. Ip-so-facto and ip-se-digit, even Hegel would be proud of this logic
Thanks Bill I was actually scared to open it after seeing so many posts with the link, I figured virus. I guess the video links/spam could be like a Schrodinger’s thing…is it a post or spam until someone opens the thread. It both I wonder how Schrödinger’s cat would see it?
