Scoop!

Looking for decent used 69-70 hood scoop. Don’t want aftermarket because I already have holes on the hood for factory I’m trying to utilize. I’m not afraid to work it a little, but I’d like to avoid through-cracks, excessive warpage, etc.

I’m pretty sure the repro scoops use the same mounting points as the factory scoop.

So, I’ll have to bug Don about this. Fiberglass industries told theirs does not line up, and I believe that’s the one seen at npd, eBay, etc… maybe his version is better/different

That one is actually a real '69 / '70 Cougar scoop ~ not one of the later versions that were also used on Comets.

I did find this one previously. I wonder what damage they’ve repaired is all

I ordered this one. Let’s see what happens.

Follow up:
VERY bad experience. I bought it through the Ed’s swap meet sight. Heard nothing other than an order confirmation. After a couple days more and nothing, I emailed the Ed’s customer service and still nothing. THEN I called mustang masters, after noticing who the actual seller was, and he said he had no idea that was still going and he’s out of stock on those, but he’s going to a couple car shows in a few weeks, etc… so I’m $600 into this thing with the shipping and it looks like I’m getting nothing. He said he’d refund me but I’m still waiting. Paypal claim process begun. I’d avoid both Ed’s and Mustang masters.

Eric,

Sorry to hear of you problems with the two sellers…that just sucks!!! Makes the experience of working on your car “tainted”.

You can also use the “Comet” scoop for what you seek, to fit the bolt holes in the hood. Be aware that there are at LEAST three different versions of this 1974-ish part!!! The first ones have all the detail of the 69-70 scoops, strengthening risers, 3 different bolt patterns, (Comet, Cyclone, Cougar) and by putting the fasteners in the proper holes, will fit your Cougar. You can even grind off the extra “third hole” (Comet app) at the front opening of the scoop so that it cannot be seen when peeking in the opening, that it isn’t a real 69-70 scoop!!! Sneaky!

As the molds developed problems over time, the various grooves and recesses for the “flying buttress” reinforcements got filled in and there was less detail…and the parts probably came out of the molds easier…OR the molds cracked, got welded up…with less areas for problems to occur. I have seen two versions of these changes.

For what you want, any of these scoops would look perfectly fine externally!!!

Good luck with your search!!!
Steve
