I was at the Kissimminee Mecum auction on Tuesday to see the Bullit car and a 70 XR7 351 4v bid to $17K, maybe a pale yellow with vinyl. Also a 68 XR7 302 4 speed Augusta green parchment. Some holes in the fender aprons and rust on floors, might have been original paint. It bid to $30K. To quote the Chronicles of Riddick the seller “should have taken the money”.
Does anybody know what the 67 Vert went for?
The Barrett Jackson auction starts today (1/13/2020) and runs through Sunday (1/19/2020) The '67 should cross the block sometime on Friday (1/17/2020), I am guessing around noon.
I’m re-acclimating to Minnesota weather after returning from Florida - with a day at Mecum. Saw most of the Cougars that were up for sale. We bumped into Kevin Marti at the Bullitt display and he started to tell us the story of the other Bullitt car found in Mexico, but he was pulled away by media people before we got the rest of the story. I was flattered that he remembered me, since I’ve only briefly met him twice before.
Watched a lot of cars of all makes cross the block without hitting the reserve. In my opinion, reserves take away some of the excitement, and may result in lower bids. Only 3 of the 8 Cougars sold, ‘the bid goes on’ for the rest.
Here are Mecum - Kissimmee 2020 results for those interested:

Lots T167 & 168 were the same owner. I think he told me he was from Rhode Island. Both were nicely restored, although I’m sure experts could find nits to pick.
Hope those in Scottsdale this week have fun. Wish I was there.
Seems like the green one was bid to a fair market value. The areas for improvement seem minor and include missing battery hold dow, wrong rear mats, front bumper slightly bent, hood misaligned and economy woodgrain decal on console. https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0120-396589/1970-mercury-cougar-eliminator/
This one just needed the hustler stick on the rear bumper and a bout 12 minor details such as the backing replaced in the door speakers. This too looks like it was bid to a decent level. https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0120-405509/1970-mercury-cougar-eliminator/

Kansas weather was enough of a shock. I’m sure further north was significantly colder.
Kevin Marti must be really good with recognizing people. I met him once back in 2017 in Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise. He had his '67 Cougar convertible there that he had done back in his college days. I told him about my car, but at that point I hadn’t started to get it running again. This past weekend I was able to show him a picture of it now in running condition, and no explanation was necessary to remind him of our earlier conversation.
A friend of mine sold numerous cars on the auction at no reserve and really took a bath. They gave him estimated values of what they should bring and most of them brought less than half. It seemed to me that most cars with a reserve didn’t end up selling. I really liked the '68, but thought it should have been well above the reserve at $30k. That seems like pretty good money for a small block car, even though the 4-speed makes it a bit more rare.

Watching todays Barter Jackson. My dog was not impressed.

I told her it will be better on Friday
I looked over the red 70 convertible and it was a very solid car having been in Phoenix its entire life. I didn’t crawl underneath it but I talked to Dave Wyrus and he said it was rock solid everywhere. I was a little surprised at how much it sold for given the amateur restoration but it was a sharp looking car with some added factory options that made it pretty appealing. It also had a really nice original hood pad which you almost never see.

Cat had the same attitude.
Is it just me, or are those popup commercials really annoying?

Are you seeing pop up ads on this site? That should not be happening.

No this site’s awesome!
Its Motor Trend TV. They have their regular commercial breaks, but they also have a lot of commercials for other MT shows that interrupt the coverage. I don’t remember seeing this before.
Ill guess 67,475.50 ![]()
Whatever it is i think its going to be less than what it should be.
Its on the block now!
$48k and counting…
$50k to a phone bidder, I dropped out at $36k. That was fun, someone will be into it at $55k plus with transportation and they can feel good at that price. Lots of empty seats this early in the AM, might have been a very different out come at 6pm. Thank you Dave for bidding on my behalf, kind of felt like waiting to see on TV if you got the lucky winning lottery ticket.
