I have a 67 with the seat belt reminder light. I’m presently have the gauge cluster out and noticed that the relay is just hanging and not mounted. Can someone please tell me where this is mounted? It has a tab for mounting.
I think this was mounted on the base bracket for relays, next next to the fuse box. Sometimes they share a mounting point w/ relays.
1/4 hex head screw
Kind of a side note. That metal bracket serves as a ground return for whatever is connected to it. Not sure if it’s carried over to the next model year but on my '68 it was situated between the fuse box and the steering column. It seems to rely on screws bolted to the firewall for grounding. Suspect in my opinion. It had a measurable resistance to ground instead of being exactly at ground. 10 Ohms vs 0 Ohms for the electrical savvy. I added a dedicated ground strap from the bracket to a more substantial ground connection. I believe I tied it to on of the large steering column bolts using eye loops as that measured better. The brightness of my dash lights was greatly increased after this “Mod”.
Totally agree. The meter I use to measure that 10 ohms is very low current (microAmps) and the high resistance will only be compounded with higher current levels.
On a 1967 Cougar, it is mounted to the long vertical side of the windshield wiper bracket.
On a 1968 Cougar, it is mounted using one of the screws for the K5 indicator relay.
