Way cool…heard good things about those Perkins diesels…

After Oklahomas record setter winter last year, I geared up for “just in case”…think what I really did, was guarantee it NEVER snowed here again!!! (which is fine, too!)

And, just to bust your chops a little…it was SOOOOOOOOOO nice today, I took the Cougar for a little cruise! With the windows down! :poke:

Have I ever mentioned…you suck!! Tractor looks good, but you still suck.

:beerchug:

It’s a trade-off, you get snow, we get tornado’s… :help: LOL!

Tractor does pretty good pushing dirt around, for a little one, haven’t had to use it for the white stuff this year…yet! A few more weeks, it’ll be time to pull the blade off, and put the mower deck back on…

I plopped down $2500 for a new snowblower last year. I’ve used it 3 times this year. Still money well spent. If it was that cheap to have a winter like this I’d pay it every year.

After I bought the blade, my neighbor went Craigslisting, and found an old Craftsman blower…huge beasty…has tank tracks instead of wheels! Got it running by a simple plug and fuel line change. Anyway, between the two of us, we’re either going to have the cleanest street in the 'hood, or never, ever see another accumulation like last years.

I’ve been threatening to mount a blade to the front of the old girl and build a cab but it hasnt happened yet. When we bought the house 13ish years ago I had a local fell blow my yard. He was very reasonable and done an excellent job. The problem was so far done the list I usually had to wait a day after the snow was finished. About 7yrs ago I sold a small piece of property and bought the MF. One of my better purchases. Hard to put a price on independance! :beerchug: :beerchug:

After the winter a couple of years ago where Cleveland set a record with 144" of snow, I bought a snowblower attachment for my AYP/Sears garden tractor - and never mounted it because the tractor’s transaxle went out… Then I ended up winning a raffle of a 30" MTD snowblower - the model that’s one step below the heated handgrips. LOL! Haven’t even used the snowblower this year. I think we’re sitting at 15" of snow for the entire winter! Biggest snowfall has only been 3-4" and not worth lugging out the snowblower.

Yeah, and I’d rather have a ton of show for the winter over the 2-tons of rain we had all of last Spring, Summer and Fall.

I seriously hoping for a drought like we had back in '88… At least then maybe my back yard will dry out! Right now 3-4" of standing water…

dmac,

If you ever need parts for that Perkins, they were quite commonly used in 28’+ sailboats… Lots of the older boats from the late ‘70s-early 80s being scrapped. Our 38’ Challenger sailboat had a SD22 Chrysler/Nissan diesel – the same engine that Datsun/Nissan used in small pickups, and also in forklifts/skidsteers…

Thanks for the info. My water pump is alittle wobbly but I’m hopng to get the winter out of it!

Speaking of Perkins Diesels…

This truck has one, beleive it or not…stock, '84 I drove it when new from '84-88. My Dad bought it because it would’t (and still won’t) go any faster than 65mph. Still runs like a Top, 285,000 miles on original motor and 4 speed tranny and clutch!

Little off topic, but what kind of mileage you get with that Ranger/Perkins combo? I wish someone would bring a combo like that back.

I bought a Simplicity 24" 10.5 HP 5 forward, 2 reverse, heated handles  3 years ago. 2 years ago it really came in handy. No use this year. This machine wil go thru 20"+ of snow eaily. Slowly, but thru it.

Only about 23 running around town and country roads, but 30 on the highway at 60.

It used to get about 35, if I recall correctly. It has not got a 5 speed, that’d help. Very short gears! But 90 ft/lbs of torque can only handle so much
