Shenanigans?

heck - even Logan had a couple of id’s and used to join in the fun every now and then before he got swallowed up as a corporate big wig

What I am afraid of is that MCN will atrophy under e-Bob’s crap and the new owners will just let it die as it doesn’t generate any click throughs. We have seen it happen with TCCN already

This is the second time I have seen a d*mn good board atrophy; and it’s a sad thing to see, almost like my experiences this summer, watching my wife’s 33-yr-old quarterhorse go through his last days. What once was “good” takes on a new ‘persona’ (almost an illness like cancer), and people start leaving. Those that stay don’t give as much input as they could; or else they grow angry at the iron-fisted changes, ‘lash out’ and are themselves banned. The loss is not theirs, they just move on to a Forum with similar interests and take their knowledge base with them.

A little back-story: For years I was enthralled with Mustangs - hey what ‘kid’ of my era wasn’t? Didn’t help that my brother, while in college worked for the local Ford dealership; and with his background as a stage-band and bar-band leader; could call in the local younger generation just by showing his face. In fact, he was the first guy to sell a Shelby in Yuma. Another brother had a couple of Mustangs over the years; as well as a '65 Fairlane 500 and a '67 XR-7 - but it was always about the Mustangs for me. So I first ended up on StangNet; and yes, that’s the other Forum I mentioned. Mike Rayburn (owner/admin), like Logan, has had other commitments take him away from the board; leaving it to a couple of Moderators to fairly much run as their own fiefdom - believe me; ECI Bob has so far demonstrated NOTHING like the heavy-handedness of these two. I’ve even seen a couple of MCN guys who were also “regulars” there start to fade away. woodsnake drops in on StangNet now-and-then, but I haven’t seen any posts from yeloxr7 in quite a while. To be honest, I just “lurk” there anymore. A LOT of the “old gang” is gone; a few of us just keep in touch on Facebook, of all places.

And now it appears to be happening with MCN. Sad.

OKAY! ENOUGH “MOPEY-MOPEY” ! Bill, you want antics? I can deliver “antics”! Here’s a little number I found on YouTube a couple years back… even dumped it on the Classics Talk to “nudge” one of the present-day MOD’s, just to see the outcome. It’s topical and “sorta funny”; if you look at it from my twisted sense of perspective…

Dawg…That is a funny video. Love the rapping Mario.

Hey guys! Have lurked off and on but for reasons related to this thread, decided to ‘join’ up. At work right now and not a lot of time but just wanted to say:

ECIB—East Coast Internet Bully

Welcome ragcat its great to have you here. This is a great site with many of the same great people seen at other places.
Steven

Welcome indeed! and… pictures are a ball to post, here

Ragcat, welcome! Glad you’re here.

Bob is actually a great contributor, he just stepped on his body part. Leon, I think the atrophy has been going on for some time. There seem to be a lot more posts from people with newer Cougars, and a lot fewer posts from people who have been the core for many years. I see a lot more misinformation being posted, and that can’t be good long term.

The irony is that on the one hand it would seem that if there was any benefit to that site having problems, I might be on the receiving end, and on the other hand I keep trying to give that board a boost. I keep coming back to one basic premise, that Don Rush pointed out: It would be impossible to replace the combined wisdom contained in all of those years of posts. I can certainly say that I have learned a lot from that forum.

Anyway, I am not going to stir the post any more. I think I have said my piece. The vast majority of members don’t even know what happened, and don’t care.

I have been visiting this board just as often as the other one and have wondered why so few people seem to have migrated here. To me its important to support our own over some corporation thats in it just for profit. I have made a few requests of the admin. on the other board and have not even recieved any responses, so to me they do not seem to have our happiness at heart. I hope most if not all the accumulated knowledge from there can be brought here.

Thanks Don. This forum really started when we first started to set the site up, and we needed a way to communicate with each other. Then Logan didn’t want the CCOA to post over there because they got into a tiff over Logan posting some CCOA stuff with out permission. SO I let the CCOA start to use this forum to discuss club stuff.

I have been giving it some thought, and I think i made a mistake. The knowledge isn’t in the old posts, it is in the heads of the members. MC.Net could decide to clear up a little drive space and all of those posts could be gone in a second.

Thanks for the welcomes all!

You are very correct that Bob is a great contributor. I probably should not have made my very first post what I did, but it is something I have thought in my own mind for…well… quite some time. When I saw what was happening to LH (who I met once while at a car show in Ohio-still LOVE the Hero!!) and MO, I figured I would check this site out again since it had been quite a while. When I saw this thread I couldn’t help but respond. As for him and his car, I admire the tenacity, quality, and sheer energy he has spent on it. It is a work of art IMHO. And if you don’t want to take my word for it, just ask him…ooops, there i go again. SORRY :smiling_imp:

As for me, those of you that know me, know that I don’t have the knowledge that some (most) on the forums have. I definitely do not have the kind of $$ that it takes to have a great classic, and I like to ‘tinker’ ‘mod’ too much to own a rare one. Although I have over 1300 posts over there, I can openly admit that most of those were made in conversations that were other than technical. But, I did own my first Cougar as a senior in HS and have had at least 1 cat most of my life. For me, there is no other car worth any amount of effort. I have learned a lot from MCnet, made some good friends, sold a few things, and bought quite a few things. It has lost a certain interest some how some way and I have a feeling you might see me over here more and more.

Bill, I do have one comment/confession about your statement concerning being on the receiving end of the benefits of what is going on over there. When you first started this up over here, for whatever reason, I honestly thought that was exactly what you were trying to do. I did check it out in the early days, and no insult intended, thought of Ray Harwood’s old site (without the political agenda). Since then, I have watched your posts and I truly believe you want nothing but the best for MCnet and your intentions are nothing but honorable.
Anyway, glad I have joined up and look forward to being a member of this forum!!
Thanks
Chuck

The other problem with MCN is that the real knowledgeable members of the Cougar community rarely post there. Jim Pinkerton and John Benoit turn up occasionally in response to someones post. Royce rarely posts anymore and Phil Parcells isn’t even a member. Haven’t seen Bill Quay on there for a while either

Hi Chuck! Yeah, I remember how flattering it was for me when you went two hours out of your way to come and see me and I wasn’t even there. I’m glad at least the car was and then you looked me up just as you about to leave.

I, too have made friendships like that with others as well. If guys who I’ve met on MCN were even remotely near Northeast, Ohio, they’ve often contacted me about making a visit.

That’s the type of commradery (sp?) that MCN was known for and the type that I can see continuing on this site.

Hello Chuck and welcome! Funny that you mentioned it I have to have at least one car that I an tinker with, with out having to worry about what is correct. It’s just too much fun to try new stuff. I am so gald that it is cooling off a little so I can get back in the garage. I think this winter I will do a sound system for the Cougar that uses an iPhone or iPod touch to control it. Not a big deal, but I would like to so something that is really simple clean and plug and play. Maybe a single 10" sub and five channels of amplification. What are you working on now? Do you still have the “blow out” cat? (I think you had a blow out towing it home)

LOL!! Blow Out Cat… That’s a good name for it. Yes, that is the one and only cat I have at the moment. A '70 standard 'vert. Work has been very slow on it since getting it. Dropped a 5.0 HO/AOD out of a Mark VII in it. Motor, ransmission, drive shaft, etc. is in. Most of the wiring is layed out, but not completely in it’s permanent place yet. Actually got to hear it ‘crank’ through the ignition switch the other day, but every time we hooked up a coil wire, got power on the fuel pump ground. Evidently have some wires melted together in the harness… Hoping to get a new (used) harness by the first of the week.

As I recall, you just about bought the farm towing that car. Was the blow out on the tow dolly or the car, I can’t remember? I just seemed pretty scary at the time.

Bill

You probably know about this guy

Hi ya Chuck

Good to see you here. Are you a grandfather yet?

Ragcat? Ragcat Chuck? The WEST VIR-GINE-A Mountaineer Chuck? You can take your Fiesta bowl, and cram it…oh, wrong forum…LMAO! How goes?? Welcome aboard the NEW shenanigan forum!!! Participate at your own risk!!!

My input on the whole banning……October 28th is my “back in bidness” date. In the meantime, I may see if Royce would be willing to wade through all my chit and delete it all. Two can play the “take my ball and go home” game. Most of my input(thought not all), was nonsensical antics, anyway. Learned way more than I contributed. As for the TMH guy, that said I SUGGESTED trial and error was a good way…NOT…I said more often than not, that was how I did things, and welcome to the club. Sheesh! LMAO, Mark can vouch for me doing the same thing over, often more than TWICE…LMAO.

Anyway, glad to see more migration this way, cuz the water shure did grow rancid over elsewhere!!!

I remember last Christmas, when Mcnet sold, a lot of people were worried with the new stuff, the ads, and some slowness. I truly believe Bill’s invitation was as an emergency setup in case the forum crumbled. I joined for 2 reasons. 1st, just in case, and 2nd, well, what’s wrong with a classic cougar site? I had already seen most of the names, and sure enough, felt this could be a great backup.

I can rarely contribute mechanical knowledge, but i do have a cougar, and i truly enjoy reading these posts. There also is a lot of fun mixed in with the knowledge. The small things I try to de on the cougar are always after suggestions from the guys that have done that.

Everyone is different, and, that’s fine by me. Too bad we can’t share a couple of brews online while shooting the bull.
