shock tower / cobra jet braces

#1 Is any one reproducing them ? … Who ?
#2 Was it only the 68’s ( Cobra Jet equipped cars ) that came with the bracing ?
Rumor has it, that Ford added the bracing to 390 GT cars ( mid year model on ) after it was seen that the 428 CJ cars needed them. If so , for how long ( model yr. wise )??
FYI : I’m referring to the LOWER ( wielded ) brace at the bottom of the shock towers . NOT the HD ( Shelby type ) firewall to shock tower bolt on brace.
Many thanks guys !

I understand when the CJ started getting them the 390s also got them. But a 68 guy will chime in on this with more knowledge 5Han I have on them.

Sanco Specialties use to sell them on eBay. But the listing has expired about a month ago. They have a website but I could not find those braces. Maybe give them a call

The wrap around tower plates also came on the 427 GTE late in the run. My Gold GTE that Tansel Acvi now owns had them.

If you are concerned about preventing cracks these work well.

Don , Since your 427 (GTE) has them , then the wrap around plates PRE-Date the 428 Cobra Jet . Where is the mix did the 390’s get them ??? And are we talking ONLY 1968 ???

Perhaps also an “X” code or “S” code thing?

My S code 390 4v XR7-G that was produced on May 6th has the shock tower reinforcements but my old X code 390 2v XR7-G that was produced on May 9, 1968 did not.

March 15 my GTE has them (W code)
anything else I’ve never seen them on 390 GT‘s included Xcode as well
My February 26 and March 8 68 GTE ‘s do not have them so somewhere on March 15th or days before the change was made.

The 428CJ came out in December 1967 for the first 50 Mustangs. One prototype 1968 Cougar came out a bit earlier, perhaps late November of 1967. None of these cars had reinforced shock towers. The Mustangs had an “S” VIN, the Cougar was a conversion from a W code factory show unit.

The reinforced shock towers came out in late March 1968 and were used on all big block Cougars and Mustangs. 390-2V / 390-4V / 427 / 428CJ.

Now you know the real story.
