Just wondering if the 69 is prone to cracks or is it just the 68.

It can happen, But the factory added reinforcement plates to the shock towers to all 1969 Cougars. So if you have a cracking problem with a 69 or newer Cougar it indicates somebody rode it hard and put it away wet to many times. That said if the tower cracks haven’t separated, they can be welded up.

the reinforcements were added to help prevent this damage. I don’t have any pictures of a 1969 shock tower, but I do of a 1970. Thay are nearly the same. See the notes on the picture.
