Sleepycat: The Journey Continues!

Started Digging along the body seams, to see if any more rust is lurking in the body, other than a few mistakes that were made during assembly(Note the wood chisel.), and bends in the left inner panel, where they worked the dent in the previous paint job. all in all, I’m pleased. No buckled seams in the floor. :beerchug:

Got the driver’s side floor done tonight, Tomorrow will be the other side.

Ahh, Progress! :smoke:

I’m sorry did you say something? I was still ogling the Snap On body tools.

Lemme… lemme get this straight. You have a GTE in your garage, and… and your diggin’ on the Snap-On body hammers?
HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU!! I will trade you EVEN-UP MIND YOU my '69 XR7 AND I will throw in 2 YES, 2 sets of Snap-On body hammers.
I know youre stunned, so if ya want to trade, just blink your eyes in an up & down motion.

Hell yeah I dig the Snap On body tools! Let’s put it this way, just because I’m married to Peg, doesn’t mean I don’t admire the Victoria’s Secret models when they come on TV. :toungin:

You start runnin’ 'round on Peg and I’ll swoop down… take Peg AND the GTE!

Al, I’ll trade you the Whole Box, and the Tools For the GT-E! Hell, You can have the Shop Too!

As you can tell by my rant in “The Garage”, Things Got pretty interesting! :doh: after cleaning the shop (firing EVERYBODY), I haven’t had much time to devote to Kitty. But I Have managed to get the engine that was going to power the '68 back. here’s the story on it;
In 2001, I built an '87 HO Stang (Pun Intended) when I built the engine, I relieved the Block, ported the heads, and Bluprinted it. The thing ran like a clock, but there were some problems that came about during it’s 20K Mile life: 1: it killed 3 T-5’s, 2: it Failed emissions by 2 points, 3: there are too many Stangs out there… Enter the first Cougar, then Enter Mrs. Sleepycat’s Issue. This meant selling everything to pay bills.

Saturday The new owner of the engine brought it back to me Minus the heads. Still Turns, Cylinders look good. Came with a Running '67 289. The Price: 6 Used Truck Tires. -I might be able to deal with that! I think that little roller-motor will sound good pulling an RUG trans :pimp:

It looks like I’ve got a pair of 351 Windsors for sale soon. One is an incomplete 92, the other, a complete 97 5.8 H.O. Long-Block. I’ll post in the parts section when they are

Glad to hear everything seems to be getting back on track with the Cougar. I must say good choice with the Cougar over the Stang. Sometimes things have to get “cleaned up” so everything can run smooth, I hope thats the case with your shop.
Steven

Wow!!! It’s been a whole Year since I’ve Posted!! :eek2:
Got some more pics to post(after I sort through them), it might take me a while. But I will tell you that I’ve made it to the bottom of “De-storing” the '67, and have started the task of body work. All of the 2 coats of paint have been removed, the cowl has been repaired, and the process of LH Trunk floor & Lower Quarter replacement is to begin this weekend. Mrs. Sleepycat is doing well, and has been learning “Hand/Sandpaper coordination”. she’s finally accepting that we are not going to buy a '67 barracuda(and that Cougars are actually cooler!). :buck: She’s been watching a lot of “WCCCTV”, because this morning she picked up a door hinge and exclaimed “That doesn’t look like the one Don rebuilt!”

Anyway, We’re still here, and still workin at a Cat! :ylsuper:

Pete

Welcome back, glad everyone is doing well. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Sleepycat I’m glad to see you posting again. It’s always good to see one of my neighbors on the boards. Great to see you making progress on your Cougar.
Steven

After sorting through pictures, Chasing Receivables, and Having to finally break down, and buy a new Computer, I finally have some progress to show!!! :jump3: :jump3:

Got the Shell Down to bare metal

Lotsa Worm Holes!

Fixed!!!

Everything that is green has been taken to bare metal. there is no filler in it…Yet!

Yep, Progress is Good!!! :grin34:

Nice work. You definitely know how to keep us in suspense!

Beat the rear Valance into submission tonight, and set the trunk lid on. Looks Square to me! :bonghitter:

So now it’s time to reach into the pocket(Mason Jar), and get some panels to fix the bad spots caused by sitting, and improper repairs from long ago. My problem is, not only do I have to replace the left trunk floor, I have to rebuild the lower quarter, and Drop-Off. Being a Pervert for Perfect, the repairs have to look Factory- No exceptions! :snooty: - It’s a hot day, work is over for the day, Let’s go Surfin’!
First Stop is where EVERY Red-Blooded Cougar Freak should start, WCCC!

The first stop is to the sheet metal department, I know they sell Trunk Floors. RH In stock, But I need Left Side, Out of Stock! "Well, I Can order the outer panel, and the Drop-off, and click the “Notify Me” button for the floor. I enlarged the outer panel pic to find It’s Really not exact, Just a Patch Panel. “Ok then!”, “Lets see how we make out in the Junk-Yard!” Click on the “Choice Cuts” link…Voila! Trunk Floor with Tail Panel. “But I don’t need the Tail Panel, Just the Lower Quarter, and the floor.” It said I needed to call anyway, so I did.
Now, Mind you, I HATE telephones, and I’m about as subtle as a brick! This is where the fun begins;

“Classic Cougar, How may I Help You?”

“Who’s This??”

(silence)…

Hello?..

“Yes, this is Javier, How can I Help You?”

“This Is Pete McQueen, From South Carolina.” “I’m on your Website, in the Specialty Cuts section, and it says here I need to call you about Specialty Cuts.” “I was wondering what your price is for the Left trunk Floor, and lower quarter for a '67.”

“Do you have the part number?”

“No, there is none, only one for the Floors, and Tail Panel together.” “I just need the LH Floor, and lower quarter.” ( at this point I can hear him getting uncomfortable)

“Why don’t you buy a patch panel?”

“Because, the outer Quarter patch won’t look original without a ton of modifications, and with as much time as I’m spending on it, it HAS to be right!”
(At this point, I Can Hear him thinking: “this guy is gonna ruin my weekend, and go ***hole on me any minute!”)

(Longer Pause…)

“Sir,” “Let me get your phone number, and I’ll have someone call you back.”

He then took my information, and we ended the conversation,

Long story Short, after a little more digging, I’ve ordered the necessary panels for the floor, and figured out how to make the outer quarter match the factory piece (which I will outline when I build it).

My Apologies to Javier, and Don’t Worry Don, I still intend on giving you Business. (I Still have a TON of Stuff to buy for Kitty!)

Pete

Last winter, when I started Stripping the paint off of the carcass, A Friend Stopped By with a 12 Pack one day…, Of course the cat became the topic of the conversation. After the second 12 Pack arrived, I knocked some Rattle bombs over, and as I picked one up, the Stupid nerve kicked in. :bloated: The End result was this:

Took Me 2 days, 1/2 roll of 80 Grit DA Paper, and a LOT of elbow Grease to sand it off!

I didn’t realize I had taken these Pictures, and I won’t reveal the color name(Out of embarrassment), until I get a couple of opinions. (It IS a shade of Turquoise) I’m almost Digging it Myself… :pimp:
