Something even an artist can do...

I was looking at the dash emblem and considering buying a new one from west coast cougars when I realized… “Wait. You’re an artist. This is actually something you might be good at!”

So. With a wire brush and acrylic paint… I had some fun yesterday.

For some reason. There was a copper/gold over where the black (underneath the COUGAR letters) should be.

I scraped off the copper/gold to get down to the texture a bit better.

Painted the entire thing SILVER and then went in with a tiny paintbrush and painted the black underneath the COUGAR lettering.

Back on Esmerelda.

Nice work. You just did silver over the yellowed plastic parts?

Thanks. There was a copper/gold where the black should be under the letters.
So I scrapped that off. Then sprayed the whole thing silver. Then painted the black in by hand (with a very little brush).

good work and saved yourself a few bucks in the process!

Nice Ssava! You should consider getting one of those Molotow chrome pens if you don’t have one already. I have watched videos of guys opening the bigger ones up, and spraying the contents with an air brush. Seems to shine up a little better than just plain silver aluminum. I have been experimenting with mine touching up pitted chrome on various parts like my 6.5 fender emblems. Probably not going to hold up well on exterior parts though.
Car must be running good?!

Thanks for the advice. Will give it a look.

And no. Sadly… the engine seems off. I know something’s not right on it. Timing, Put the distributor on wrong, something.
Hoping to get some help with that soon.

She’s running okay. But I don’t want to do any permanent damage if I can help it.

Picture #3 above would make a nice poster! The background is as good as a lot of Avant-garde paintings!

Ha. Thanks. My poor drawing table is covered in the excess of past paintings…

The chrome one and the Tamiya chrome pen are very good (Tamiya has an edge). I use them when I’m too lazy to bare metal foil or have already cleared the body so the foil won’t stick

Leonbray,
Think I have read this somewhere else, but not sure, but is bare metal foil the thin delicate stuff that some use to replate the plastic dash pieces, and then are you saying you put a clear coat over that, and if you get nicks and such in that finish that you touch it up with the chrome pens?
I had my plastic pieces redone by a local guy http://www.chrometechusa.com/index.html It is very fragile stuff, and I need to do some touch up on it. Whish now I would have done something more durable. Think I spent about 400.00 on it.

A couple more “artist touches” last night.
Hate seeing too many colors.
So I painted the MSD Blaster coil. Sanded and sprayed the harness. And painted the windshield washer fluid tank.

Trying to keep the engine bay to Ford Motor Blue, Black, and Chrome.
