When you convert a 1970 Cougar to right hand drive, the clock normally ends up on the outer edge of the passenger dash panel, rather than the inner edge
This has been bugging me for a while so I decided to move the clock to the inner edge
First step is to measure and create a backing plate to be used for the replacement fascia.( This plate fits inside the raised lip on the aluminium dress panel)
Then cut a hole on the inner side of the backing plate for the clock in the backing plate to be used for the fascia and in the thin aluminium panel
An XR7 fascia was cut into four sections as the left and right hand ends are not symmetrical and cannot be reversed
The sectioned XR7 fascia was then bonded to the backing plate and then sanded and filled (the original camera case fascia has been put into storage)
The fascia mounting screw plates (previously removed from the back of the XR7 fascia were bonded to the fascia and brackets fabbed to allow the clock to be mounted to the rear panel
After a lengthy search for the right type of pebbled vinyl finish, I was able to get some vinyl from the UK and apply it to the fascia
And then it was time to convert the clock to a quartz movement, apply the expensive reproduction emblem and clock harness and reinstall the dash (along with 2 x 4" speakers in the centre)
Also managed to upgrade to 8000rpm tach and voltmeter from RCCI while the dash was out (carbon fibre fascia is for another project )
