Should there be a Spacer Between Master Cylinder & Power Brake Booster?
I’m having an issue with my rear brakes locking up a bit.
Drums are hot after a drive.
I had s similar problem on one of my Fiats and to test it out I put a washer between the MC & PB Booster.
The problem went away.
I was reading online that there are spacers available to go between them.
There isn’t one on my car.
Is it missing or is this just a rod adjustment issue?
I put a washer between the MC & PB Booster and it seemed to get a little better.
I’ve heard that sometimes the rod is not adjustable, so I want to make sure before I tear everything apart.
Thanks in advance.
The one in your picture is a Bendix booster. They don’t use a spacer. The Midland booster uses a filter that often gets referred to as a spacer because folks don’t understand what it does. It might be helpful to all who read this to know if your car is a Cougar? If so, what year is it, and what sort of brakes?
Yes 1969 convertible with 390 & automatic transmission.
Disc brakes up front or all four drums?

Could be the rod needs to be adjusted to the correct length, they sell a tool to make that adjustment easier. It could also be that the brake pressure differential piston in the distribution block got shifted, most likely from bleeding brakes without the tool used to lock it in place. This would cause the rear brakes to bypass the proportioning valve and give more braking authority to the rears than they should normally have.
