Speaking of Comet Calientes..

Is it just me or is a '67 Caliente a pretty nice looking body style?

I see one for sale in town here and I can’t stop thinking about it! a 390 car with a pearl white repaint. Fantastic condition of the lights and grille and tail anodized material is the first thing I notice. The windsheild stainless is really nice on it too. Plus, it has a fiberglass hood. On the underside of the hood is basic screen material like heavy window screening. The two front holes are cut out, pretty sure that wasn’t supposed to be the factory set up. Does anyone know much about these cars or what the fiberglass hood is about? I do remember reading that certain models had it.

After doing a google search, It appears that this is the very car! This car isn’t a GT, but is badged 390. It appears he must have added the GT style hood…pretty cool. Unfortunately the car has been sitting outdoors for quite a while and the interior is really tired…

Thoughts?

Looks pretty sharp to me…GFI!

(Go For It)

See how painless it is when other people spend your money?

I love comets and galaxies. Hoping to have a galaxie as my next project car. Love em! Stacked up head lights are awesome!

My research has turned up this so far:

390 2v (H code, 270 hp?) car built in LA.
c6, Column shift
Definitely a Caliente, Bench Seat (Body style 11)

Currently has a 750 HOlley and headers to large dual exhaust. Beefy rear end with sway bar! Wide-arse rear tires.

Marti Report on order…This is just what I need :shifty:

Cyclone hoods were fiberglass with the screening…

Brian, I really think you need my '66 Caliente 4-dr… 289-2V automatic… Only 34k original miles… A four-door Caliente is rare - only 1600 or so made!!!

Yeah, I got that one figured out. Pretty cool! Were the holes supposed to be fake/closed, then?

I’m over this little project idea already…Silverton Ford has driven it and given it the thumbs down, and he likes everything!

No, the Cyclone scoop holes were open with screening. Not sealed or ducted to the aircleaner… So, do you want a rare '66???

I like that body style too.

Brian, have you seen Don’s 1966 Cyclone Holman-Moody clone? S-code, automatic, buckets and a console.

Here is the email I sent to BAust yesterday about the car…this car has been around town a bit. Current seller is trying to flip the car…more power to him, hopefully it is better than when I saw it this past summer. I may have over-reacted about my price someone should pay, but it definatly isn’t worth the $6,500 they are asking now or the $3,000 the previous guy wanted this summer. My friend John and I were going to offer $1,500, but then again…we already had and have too many projects and didn’t need another headache.

Haha……been there done that.

This car was for sale in West Salem earlier this summer. John was ‘hot-to-trot’ to buy it. Price was $3,000 or so. We went to look at it, but it was very blah….bubbles in paint (rust), rust in the trunk, boring interior (bench), drum brakes, tacky under the hood, homemade wiring, wiring rats nest under the hood and under dash, rust in other places. I remember it being an H-code (390-2v). I don’t remember it having headers, I thought it had manifolds. GT hood, but I don’t think it’s a GT car. The paint is Pearl….very Pearl. Lacking on normal white, it’s very Pearl……something very popular in the 90’s. Parts are easy to come by, but this just didn’t have enough ‘cool factor’ as John was imagining, so we passed on it. We went for a test drive……brakes were manual and pulled hard to one side……very scary to drive. Two months later it was sitting on South Lancaster (across from the movie theater, next to trailer dealership, 3 doors south of Sonic).

Seemed like a good running motor. Supposedly Hubler built the motor…which is a well known guy. He has been working on Ford’s since the 60’s. Used to race a 63 Lightweight, Cobra Jets, and many many many many more Ford Muscle cars. The kid selling the car was selling it for his dad. Supposedly his dad skipped out of the country and needed money. The kid didn’t know much specifics about the motor but he felt it was worth something. John and I convinced ourselves that it was too much of a headache fixing a long list of little stupid things that someone else screwed up. Pictures look cool and it is exciting, but not too cool in person…… My advice is to stay away unless it is Free or everything has been fixed and upgraded.

Too bad it has so many issues. Although I prefer the front end of the '66, the '67 is still a very handsome car. I hope someone gives this one a good home and the care it deserves.
