Spinning Power Steering Cylinder Stud

Hi all,

I resealed the power steering cylinder on my '67 today and when I went to reinstall it found that the stud that connects the cylinder to the center link spins freely when I attempt to tighten the nut. There was no spinning when I loosened the nut; would have made it difficult to loosen, with how stuck it was!

Is the stud supposed to spin like this? If so, does anyone have any tricks for getting the nut nice and snug?

Thanks in advance!

It should be a tapered fit into the steering link and steering sector box. The taper normally prevents rotation. Maybe you are not turning the nut fast enough? It normally is not an issue.

Thanks Royce, I appreciate the confirmation that all is good with the part. That makes a lot of sense on the taper… when the nut starts spinning I’ll try adding a little pressure to squeeze the assembly together and surely friction will do its thing.

Make sure the nut threads on freely and both tapers are clean and dry
