They are grease boots. I use silicone spray to get them on the shaft, weld, then slide them over the ends.
Other cheap shaft kits just use an o ring

This is a great place to get real world experiences and advice and thanks to all who have given their time and knowledge.
For my 2c worth to the original question, replace or reco every thing, do it complete and do it once,
Iv gone back and revisited mine because i didn’t do it 100% the first time.
It doesn’t really cost much .
If in doubt, just do it !!
