Hi Everyone :slight_smile:
New here and have recently started a restomod project on a 1970 Cougar!
I want to swap out the factor automatic trans for a TKO600 5 speed manual and have been looking at a Silver Sport Transmissions PerfectFit conversion kit for a 1970 Cougar. I suspect it was made for Mustangs and is listed for both. (Are the drive tunnels identical on mustangs?)

Has anyone had experience with this kit or the company? Does it fit like they say/are they reliable?

Any advice is welcome! I’m new to car restoration so am happy to take on any wisdom.

Installed a TKO6 in a 67 Cougar with no issues. never heard of Silver Sport trans. If you do their kit report back how it went. All of my hardware came from Modern Driveline. http://www.moderndriveline.com/index.html
I think you could avoid some headaches by going to MDL for the install kit. They have specialized in Ford from the get go.
Yes the tunnels are identical from 67-70. The earlier Mustang tunnel is smaller from 64-66.

I installed one in my 69 and it fit fine. I also used Modern Driveline.

I agree with the others. Put a TKO-600 in my 1970, the Modern Driveline kit fit perfect.

I’m now in contact with the guys at Modern Driveline and they’re recommending a T5 over a TKO600 for me.
I’m not too familiar with the two systems, but I haven’t heard great things about the T5, I don’t suppose any of you have comment on this?

I will be looking to make 400 - 500 Hp one day so naturally I’m looking for a tranny that will handle that with ease.

I did the T5 in my 70. I used the kit from Modern Driveline. The drive shaft will not work for a Cougar. But if you plan performance up grades I would use the bigger transmission. The T5-Z is only rated for 330 pounds of torque.

I used the Silver Sport kit and it came with everything, and I went with the TKO. I had no issues and everything fit perfectly! It comes with the correct driveshaft too. The only mod I had to make on the car was to make some clearance underneath with the tunnel. Best thing I ever did to my Cat!
