Hey
I am slowly turning my early 67 cougar into a restomod, heavy on the resto part. My husband and I installed a 347 striker engine in it. We wanted to upgrade the gauges. These usages have a wiring harness that connects to the original wiring harness. I I was thinking about converting the standard dash face to an XR-7. I have read the biggest problem is the wiring. Using these gauges I don’t think I’ll have that problem. My question is, besides wiring, is there any other mods I would need to do? I know I would need an XR 7 bezel and insert. Would these fit into my standard car without modifications?
Thanks for any help. Lisa
It’s a bolt in. The wiring mod does not need to happen if you use aftermarket gauges - except the tachometer.
Like mentioned its a bolt in deal if you have al the XR7 face parts
I did the same using speedhut gauges. I needed to modify the face and back panels slightly to fit the gauges but its pretty easy. I made my own harness that could plug into the factory harness but this is mainly only for the illumination, power and ground. I used the senders for the gauges which are wired independently.
