Steering Column Upgrade

I have a 1970 which was last driven in 1994 when I was still in my twenties.

I’m thinking about changing out the stock steering column to a tilt on when the interior and dash are still out. And still use my stock wheel

Any suggestions or help would be great!

John

Other than the " I did it" columns, perhaps something out of a 1978 ish monarch might do-

78 ford pu had a key on dash tilt column wit the tilt actuated by pushing the turn sig lever down. Wiring and wheel should be somewhat compatible

For what it’s worth here is an interesting link to tilt wheel installs on Ford trucks.

It might be of some help in determining which truck column could be compatible with a Cougar and ( especially ) the turn signal switch and wiring issues that come with a ‘transplant’.
Good Luck - but in my opinion it would be easier and a LOT less headache to find an original 1970 Cougar Tilt column - might not be cheaper, but would not provide you with as many challenges and ‘surprises’.

DrDesoto,

70 Cougar has the key in the column.
