Stupid question about leaf springs

Has anybody ever used rust converter on leaf springs and if so, did anything unforseen happen?

I took a set of springs apart and wire brushed and check for cracked or broken ones, and then sprayed rust converter and then sprayed a cast paint and have been using them for over 10k with no problem. Just make sure that the directions say that the converter can be painted over, some can’t.

Thank you, I’ll do that. The majority of the oxidation had been cleaned up with a wire wheel and other abrasives back when the rear suspension was out. A concern about the converter was phosphoric acid. While not significant enough to cause any serious issue it may affect the characteristics of the springs. As this approach has worked out for you just fine it makes sense to proceed with the same method.
